PieNtheSky32 - 12 Jan 2004 03:13 GMT is awesome! :)) Tried the 2% and the Chocolate, Love them both. Nice to have with breakfast and in LC cereal.

SuperAlpha - 12 Jan 2004 13:21 GMT haha - I am eating the Atkins Banana Nut cereal with Hoods 2% right now..yum
Wheatie42 - 12 Jan 2004 16:45 GMT another good one to try that I had this morning with my hi-lo cereal and my kashi puffs cereal...soy slender soy milk! Vanilla, chocolate or espresso! And at only 70 calories a cup, plus 5 carbs and 4 of them fiber, you can't go wrong!

I have a half gallon of the chocolate and there is no mention of soy in the ingredients.
Good stuff, though!

PieNtheSky32 - 12 Jan 2004 21:57 GMT The Soy Slender is totally a soy product. The Hood's isn't soy.

To a 7 year old it was still just milk :)

(Yes, I know I can make it myself, but I really like being able to just pour some from a carton).
Also, I wonder what the chances are that Starbucks could be convinced to offer that for lattes?

I was at my local lo-carb shop on Sunday and I saw that Davinci makes a sugar free/no carb egg nog syrup! You could put it in this new lo-carb milk and tah-dah!

lbudney@pobox.com - 13 Jan 2004 15:03 GMT > Also, I wonder what the chances are that Starbucks could be > convinced to offer that for lattes? You can order a "latte breve" at Starbucks. It's made with half-n-half instead of milk. Costs a bit extra, but tastes great with much fewer carbs.
--Len.
Lee B. - 14 Jan 2004 03:50 GMT Yes, I've been getting the occasional breve for years, but if a cup of half and half is 10 GM CHO and 314 calories and Hood is 3 GM CHO and 130 calories, then I'd rather try a latte with the Hood product, assuming that it steams correctly. Between that and my own SF syrup that I carry with me (wanna confuse the clerk at Starbucks, try that), I might even order two of them <G>.

T68b - 14 Jan 2004 04:54 GMT >Between that and my own SF syrup >that I carry with me (wanna confuse the clerk at Starbucks, try that), Lee, Starbucks uses your own SF syrup? My husband tried getting themto use one, and they said they couldnt. Havent tried adding it myself afterwards...any idea if that would work? Kathi
Lee B. - 14 Jan 2004 13:24 GMT It seems to depend who is working. Sometimes whoever is taking the order will just go ahead and pour it in for me and sometimes that ask me to pour it in myself. One young lady recently told me she thought she'd heard they weren't supposed to use other people's syrup and that she would fill the cup a little less so that I could use my own syrup afterwards, but when I told her they'd always let me add it ahead of time and that it tastes better that way, she handed me the cup to pour it in. I explained to them that I had my own SF amaretto syrup and that if they had more choices than the same boring SF vanilla, then I'd use theirs. They seemed to understand that. Now Barnie's does (usually) have SF caramel so I will use their syrup. I'm thinking that the next time I'm at that Starbucks, I might just take a cup while I'm standing in line, add the syrup and hand it to the cashier. That would give them less time to worry about it.
Now 3 or 4 years ago (pre Starbucks and pre Atkins being wide spread) I used to frequent another coffee place. It was a struggle to get a breve latte, although some of the young ladies would. Then finally they said that their manager told them they weren't allowed to steam half and half, even though I was willing to pay extra for it. I guess they thought that the cream would contaminate their precious low fat milk pitcher <G>.

For that reason, it is probably safer for them not to use anything brought in by customers.

Adding your own aftwards should work if you want the syryp. I like my lattes syrup free :-)

(It's hard for me to go through a half gallon.) Custard, pudding, or something similar comes to mind. Too bad tapioca is off-limits. (I have seen the recipe that reduce the amount of tapioca used, but are they any good? Or do they sort-of defeat the purpose of tapioca?)

When I want to use up a lot of it, I make either chowder or pudding. One of these days I'll attempt making ice cream with it; just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Lee B. - 13 Jan 2004 13:12 GMT I've found it at my local Safeway and Shoppers (formerly Metro).
I took a carton into work for my coffee. It's not being "borrowed" quite as rapidly as my half and half <G>.

But it's awsome! The white tastes like, well, milk. And the chocolate is delicious and rich. Great find!
