Been LC for 5 months.  Breast tenderness was increasingly bad.
The doc said nothing to worry about its hormonal.

Went off LC since xmas and no change.  I have read that diets
high in animal protein can cause this.  Has anybody else had the same?

Back on LC.

I get this problem when I am close to my TOM and on birth control
pills.

I'm off the pills now so no breast tenderness but it is a while before
my TOm rolls around again so I will have to wait and see for certain
on that one.

Are you using Flax Seed oil?  It causes this problem for me.

Breat tenderness has always been a problem for me, and it is hormonal
imbalances.  I take 1000mg a day of Evening Primrose Oil and it's
reduced the pain by more than half.

Never ran across that one...
And since you went off LC and had no change, you've pretty much dispelled "high
protein" (as you call it) as a cause.
I know that caffeine consumption is a well known and documented cause of breast
pain. What's your caffeine intake level?
Otherwise, your doctor is probably right.

It's actual a fairly common condition for women.
My specialist recommended Vits E & B6 and Evening
Primrose, as well as cutting out the caffeine and chocolate.

On Atkins, it's recommended not to take caffeine
anyway...

But - oh - what I wouldn't give for a cup of hot chocolate
or some Godivas right now...

Sue,

Low carb cocoa is easy.  Better yet, there have been several studies
published this year showing that cocoa powder contains magnesium and
phytochemicals that help control blood sugar and prevent cataracts.

I have recipes for very low carb cocoa on my low carb web site at
http://www.geocities.com/jenny_the_bean/recipes.htm  You make it with water,
splenda or DaVinci sugar free syrup, cocoa powder, and your choice of cream,
half and half or Carb Countdown milk. It clocks in at 1 carb and 46 calories
made with cream, or 33 calories and 2 grams of carb made with 1/4 cup of
milk and the rest water. The latter is what I prefer.

My breasts are usually painful shortly before my TOM, that's my clue that it
is coming. But after a month of LC my first TOM my breast were definitely
more painful. Like don't even think about looking at them painful. Never
thought it was LC, just figured something hormonal was changing and would be
better next month.

I hate it when this happens... it's usually just before that time of the
month.  They're in pain right now and I wish it was all over... for another
few weeks anyway.. I feel the pain while I'm running. :-( Gotta love being a
woman.
