Columbus, Ohio: Low carb heaven

Hi all,

Donato's Pizza (originally a Columbus company, bought by McDonald's
and being sold back to the orginal owner, thank God) has tested and
will soon roll-out nationally, a crustless, low-carb pizza). The
toppings are put on some kind of soy-based crumb base, cooked on a
heatproof platter and is meant to be eaten with a fork. Donato's pizza
toppings are terrific IMHO.

The local Wild Oats had a big sign at the door of the store yesterday
saying something like "If you're counting carbs, look for our Counting
Carbs signs throughout the store for low carb products." I actually
found some soups I can add to my diet!

Went to Great Harvest Bread to get my DH the cinnamon swirl bread he
wanted (I'd like to strangle him sometimes) and they had a huge sign
advertising low carb bread. I sampled it in the store and it was
terrific. It's a heavy bread with a crisp crust and excellent texture
and bite. 8 carbs per slice. Brought it home, ate it and no impact on
my BG!

Kroger's is carrying Brownberry Counting Crabs bread, Atkin's and
CarbSmart ice creams, and several Keto brand products (which I don't
really care for, but they are there). They also had a big display of
the Smart Ones low-carb frozen meals (they also have the Lean Cuisine
ones but I don't consider 25 carbs to be low!).

The local health food store adds more products each week (many
inedible, but hope springs eternal). Picked up some biscotti and
brownies. I also bought a Carbolite coconut chocolate bar that was so
good I'm glad I just bought one.

And, lucky me, I have a Subway, Outback Steakhouse,TGI Friday's and
two Donato's all within a mile of home.

Oh, and yesterday when DH was watching football I heard someone
interviewing Jared who was talking about the new Atkin's wraps at
Subway. I was almost certain that they would spell the demise of his
career, but I heard him say he ate one and it was good, so I guess
Jared is shilling for Atkin's now, too (good for him and Subway, this
is how our economy works!).

Just thought I'd share.

Speaking of Kroger's......this week they began carrying the Carb Option
brands too.  My local Kroger (Dayton) had a big display of the products
today.  LC BBQ sauce, meat marinade, ranch dressing, pasta sauce, and peanut
butter.  Just wanted to let you know so you can check it out when you go to
Krogers again.

Am originally from that area. Glad to see Donatos being returned! Loved
their pizzas!

What is your source on the sale of Donato's?

Thanks

I too reside in Columbus Ohio. The info was very helpful. I was
wondering about what stores carry what. I am new to Atkins. Starting
induction this coming weekend. Thanks for sharing the info, very much
appreciated. I love Donatos Pizza. Glad to hear they are going to
carry that new pizza you described. Don't think I will be able to try
that stuff for awhile though. Its something to look forward to.

Sorry it took so long to respond. Turbo Tax wouldn't run and that's
all I've had time to deal with. It's been awhile back. There was an
article in the Columbus Dispatch and it was on all the local news
stations. I think it's great. I'm old enough to have gone to the
original Donato's (many times) and I didn't like the "little" cost
cutting changes McDonald's made.

I too have heard through the grapevine Donato's is coming out with a
low carb pizza. I cannot wait to try it. Besides, we can do a little
splurge/treat with that. Order pizza for all of us including the boys.

I want to mention to those in Columbus Oh..That a friend told me about
a store that carries Just Low Carb Products. And that they have alot
to choose from also. The friends said they picked up a couple items. I
asked about baking products, like pancake mix, muffin mix, cornbread,
etc. Cause I am new to this, still in induction. But like to have a
treat in a couple weeks. Don't know wher to find these things. This
store also carries vitamins/supplents. Its located on the West side of
Columbus. Its across the street from Wal-Mart on Rome/Hilliard road.
Next to Burger King. They also have samples out to try for free. So
cool! Going to go check them out tomorrow.

Big Bears as you all know in Columbus is going out of business. I
havn't found much worth buying the last few times. Though I did the
last time I went. Got lots of spices/herbs at 60 percent off!! Got
alot of them. I alos talked with the manager at the West side location
of Big Bears. The Lincoln Village location. The stores around Columbus
are sending all the leftover stuff that is not selling to that store.
So maybe check them out for goodies!  I browsed the vitamin section,
they also had some Atkins products marked down pretty good. Got some
shake mix, and some low carb candy bars. Havn't tryed them yet because
I am still in induction. And trying to follow the rules best I can.

I did pick up low carb barbecue sauce, steack sauce, italian marinade
from Krogers. I like them all. Its a little more pricey but worth it.

I am having a hard time finding sugar free ketchup. Any ideas on that?
