I was at FoodMax in San Jose today (corner of Meridian & Parkmoor) and found
medium heads of cauliflower for $1.49 ea! I've seen them anywhere from $2.49-
$3.99 (usually $2.99) at most stores in the last few months, so this is a GREAT
deal! I haven't tried freezing fauxtatoes, but I'll try it this week. If I like
the result, I'm going back for more! FoodMax is one of those bag-your-groceries
stores and their prices are FAR less for most things than average stores. I also
see a lot of produce there that you don't often see in a lot of other stores.
The only thing I REALLY don't like about the store is that it's one of those
places where you have to walk completely around the right through produce and
then all the way down the length of the store past the meat dept in order to get
to the rest of the aisles. For someone who tries to limit her walking, this is
pretty damn annoying when all I went in there for was distilled water (of course,
I wouldn't have spotted the cheap cauliflower if I hadn't walked past it).

We have an Aldis which is similar and their cauliflower was that price.
i made a few batches of the tater recipe and froze it. Works quite well
that way. Sunday is my cook-up day for the week and freeze meals in
advance because of cooking for the family and work lunches.
