Candida?

Help!  I have a sever rash all over my legs, thighs, and the back of my
knees.  It is incredibly itchy.  I was reading through my atkins book and it
mentioned a rash as a symptom of Candida.  I am also severely allergic to
house mold, it causes asthma attacks.
I noticed that my last few days of food consumption have been a lot of
cheddar cheese, smoked foods, mushrooms and  salami.  These are all listed
as foods that are no no for Candida.
Has anyone dealt with this before.  I immediately started taking garlic
and acidophilus to try to curb this.  But it has been 2 days and I am
miserable.  Should I go to the dr? Anyone have any suggestions who has dealt
with this before?  I am on induction, so this drastically cuts what I can
eat.  Thanks,
Daisie

With me it was under my arms and breasts, and on my sides... I found
the main culprit in my case to be ATKINS barbeque sauce... the spices
seemed to cause it...

bactine spray  seemed to at least stop the pain for minutes...

Also took lots of fish oil,

Do a websearch on Candida, and you will find a boatload of
information. Rashes have many causes, and Candida die-off is
definitely one of them, but I would hesitate to diagnose that unless
you have frequently been prescribed antibiotics in the last few years.
In which case, I'd go out on a limb and say "BINGO!" (That was my
case).  Another indicator would be high blood sugars (first stages of
diabetes) over a significant period of time.

Any rate, seeing your doctor is probably a good thing to do.  However,
Candida is so ubiquitous that your doctor is not capable of believing
it could be the problem.  Also, s/he will advise you to get off that
awful Atkins diet, and that part you can just nod your head and
ignore.  You might be able to get a prescription for a topical steroid
cream that (used sparingly) can relieve much of your agony.  I have
experimented with several anti-itch creams, and found one called
Respite which works fairly well.  However, it's EXPENSIVE.  The
Wal-Mart brand of muscle rub has the same ingredients, except for
about 10 times as much, and at about half the price.  Applied
liberally to a rash, it burns like hell for a few minutes, then
settles down to a warm glow, and THEN a few minutes later the itching
finally subsides.  You might want to apply it sparingly at first, then
liberally as the skin acclimates to it.

If you use steroid cream, rub it in thoroughly a half-hour or so
before using any OTC anti-itch cream, to give it a chance to soak in.

Be *careful* with muscle rub.  Take great care to avoid the eyes, the
nose, the armpits, and the crotch.  You don't want to know how I
learned that.  If you apply it before bedtime, put on some cotton
undergarments that cover the areas you want to avoid before climbing
into bed.  If you want to be kind to your partner (assuming you have
one) in bed, put on full-coverage PJs.  Your hands will be fairly
insensitive to muscle rub, so you want to be sure that you carefully
wash your hands with warm soapy water TWICE after you rub it in.  You
don't want to know how I know that, either.

As for restricting your diet farther, you *do* have a choice...  You
want to keep itching?  If not, eliminate damned near everything except
cooked fresh veggies, *extremely* fresh salads, & fresh meats & eggs.
Just about anything with preservatives (or added antibiotics) in it is
likely to set off a round of hives, as will cheese, mushrooms, grains,
and nuts.  Cook your food thoroughly, and eat everything as fresh as
possible.

Garlic, Tea Tree Oil, acidophilus, and other anti-yeast stuff may or
may not help enough to notice.

Yep. I get it and have to stop my intake of all yeast producing foods
which *SUCKS* because I LIKE all those foods. :-/
