Hi,
I'm on day 9 of Atkins induction. I've dropped from 274 lbs to 264.
Despite my size, I'm actually pretty athletic.
Am I still able to work out as much as I did before cutting out the carbs?
(4 days of weights a week, cardio daily)?
Second question: I dropped 4 lbs. on the third day, then levelled off, then
dropped 6 more in the last 2 days. Is this normal?
Brian.

Hi Brian, welcome to the group! Sounds like you are doing it right!

I'll let the jocks field that one.

Yes. The majority of weight lost during induction is water. This is because the
body stores excess carbs as glycogen in the liver. Each molecule of glycogen has
about 4 molecules of water bound to it. As you use up the excess glycogen for
energy, the water is released. That doesn't mean you aren't also losing FAT,
though. After the first 1-3 weeks, your weight loss will probably level out at
1-2 lbs per week. This is ABSOLUTELY normal, so don't freak out when you don't
see the same dramatic results in the upcoming weeks. Also, lots of people stop
losing weight for 1-3 weeks after about a month into the program. This is also
normal. The theory is that the body is taking a little time to adjust to the
shift in the way it's processing fuel. Then again, some people just keep losing
steadily week in and week out. (lucky bastards :-)

Yours sounds similar to mine. With a starting weight of 248lbs,
my induction loss so far has been:
Day 1 - 4lbs
Day 2 - 3lbs
Day 3 - 0lbs
Day 4 - 3lbs
Day 5 - 0lbs
Day 6 - today

daily wieght really doesn't matter much especially if you are working out.
It will be all over the place. You may even gain a pound or two when you
are good. Just keep doing what you are doing. You have a good start, but
you won't lose that fast after the first two weeks. It gets slower, but it
will come off.
Nice start,
Curt

I don't know, are you? If you can do it, do it.

Yes, weight does not drop off steadily everyday. Some days you lose a
lot, some days you lose nothing. Some days you put on a pound (just
hope those days are few and far between.)
