Is Whiskey OK on SB/Atkins?  Doesn't it have sugar?

I appreciate all input.

Thanks,

The body will metabolize calories from alcohol before those of anything else
(carbs, protein, fat).  So, booze is okay provided you don't consume so much
that the calories from it plus the food you eat don't exceed the amount
needed to lose weight (something under your maintenance level of calories).
If you drink enough booze so that the calories from it plus the food you eat
exceeds your maintenance level of calories, you'll put on weight -- with
some combination of carbs, protein and fat being converted to bodyfat
(mostly those from fat).

The simple answer without all the mumbo-jumbo? There are no carbs in
distilled liquors, including whiskey.

But from what I understood from the SBD book is that your body uses the
alcohol as fuel "first" before it burns anything else so while there are no
carbs you won't be burning as much fat either.

So what? You lose about an hour burn per ounce of pure alcohol.

Moderation, Not Deprivation

My feeling is that if you are willing to take the calorie hit, a shot once in a
while won't make a huge diff.  Buy the good stuff, sip it slowly and really
enjoy it. I have a Birthday bottle of XO Cognac that I enjoy hugely in this
manner. I drink about a half shot once in a while. It's so wonderfully
flavorful that tiny sips are satisfying.
