Water with Lemon?

I am limiting my carbs to help control my diabetes and lose some
weight.  My doctor has asked me also to drink at least 64 oz. of water
a day.

I like to squeeze a think slice of lemon into my glasses of water, but
I'm not sure if that is defeating the purpose of drinking the water.
Can anyone advise me whether this is OK, or must I drink the water
straight to get the desired effect?

Thanks.

I'm sure lemon in your water is no problem, other than the miniscule addition
of a carb or two, at most.

I keep frozen lemon slices on hand in a ziplock, and float a slice on top of a
glass of water.  You get the flavor without really adding anything to your
water.

Looks pretty, too.  :-)

I've heard that lemon in water is like a diuretic.  Can
anyone else confirm that?

from http://www.naturalways.com/medValFd.htm :

Lemon.  This citrus fruit ranks very high in its medicinal value, having
many therapeutical uses. Lemon juice is a natural antiseptic which may
be safely applied directly to cuts, bruises and infections. Lemon juice
is good for asthma, headaches, pneumonia, and arthritis. It is a good
general blood and body purifier and a mild diuretic. Do not take in
cases of inflammations of the digestive tract. The juice also aids in
the removal of old drug residues (poisons) from the body.

Yes it is a diuretic AND it also gives the water some flavour so it is
easier to drink for those people who really do not like drinking
water.

I like water and I often have it with a slice of lemon (or lime) in
mine.

It is fine. Go ahead and do it if that is what you like.
The more water you drink the better for you.
