On Low-Carb Diets, is sugar by itself best avoided, or is it only the carb
amounts contained therein?

it depends.

Hola,

The problem with sugar by itself is its capability to give
you a sugar rush and then you will eat more because you are
hungry again...

My advice: Avoid it the best you can ;)
