I just discovered two new sauces in the spaghetti sauce section.
Ragu "Carb Options" Alfredo sauce and Double Cheddar sauce
I have not tried them yet. They claim 2 carbs per serving. No sugar.
I'll bet they are working on a low carb red sauce.

I have always found the Ragu Meat sauce to be good and LC.
I think it was around 6-8 for a half of a cup which is alot
if you are just using it as a meat topper.
I always keep looking at the jars because for some reason theres
one that says meat but is a little different and has more carbs.
I like to put it on chicken, hamburgers, and italian suasage for a little
change of pace. I only use a couple of tablespoons so its not that bad.

I think their Sugar Free has 5 carbs/1/2 cup. It's pretty good.

Used the Ragu sugar free to make lasagne the other night (zuchinni slices
instead of pasta.. layers of spinach and lots of cheese and meat mmmmmm) I
had never tried it before and it's the first bottled spaghetti sauce I have
NEVER felt the need to doctor up. It is REALLY good.

I didn't see a "sugar free." Maybe I missed it, or maybe my supermarket
does not stock it.
Is there a distinctive color or marking I should look for?

Look for "Light Ragu No Sugar Added Tomato & Basil".
The word "light" is at the top of the label , in fairly large green letters
(all lower case). The there's the regular "RAGU" logo in large red letters
on a red circle. At the bottom of the label there's a strip that's about
3/4 of an inch wide. It's light blue (the strip on regular varieties is
dark blue, I think). It says "No Sugar Added Tomato & Basil" in white
letters. (Be careful, there's also a "light" version that is just "tomato
& basil", which *does* have added sugar, and a couple of more carbs.)
And if you happen to live near a Stop & Shop, it's on sale this week for 99
cents per jar (ending Sat Jan 17).
from the label:
Serving size: 1/2 cup
Calories: 50
Total fat: 1.5 g
Total carb: 7 g
Fiber: 2 g
Sugars: 5 g
Protein: 2 g
I looked at the ragu site (www.eat.com) and they do list the product by
name but don't show a picture of the label.

I just posted it a day or so ago. Google "eggplant lasagna" on this group.

I just tried the Double Cheddar on some spaghetti squash. The combo was
GREAT.

I bought them too, in a weak moment, as Ragu wasn't a favorite brand in the
who-cares-as-long-as it's-delicious-days. Haven't tried them yet, but
believe the carb count given on the label. Rao's Vodka Sauce is very low,
forget the exact # at the moment, but it's truly low carb and delicious.
Pricey, but then l/c woe can be a bit high at times if you want a lot of
variety in your diet. The Vodka Sauce is massively good with lightly steamed
broccoli and cauliflower...steam for 7 to 11 min---the least possible time
for your taste---and let drain very very well in colander. Parmesan and/or
romano and fresh black pepper make this a divine side dish. Also good with
l/c ziti mixed in. Also good on steamed string beans. These need a longer
steaming than the broc. or caul.
Best regards,
Mary Ellen, who is feeling chatty today
