I just realized the skin is coming off my tounge...
I think I'm done with this low carb stuff... Any of you have something
similar to this? It's coming off in patches...

Um... No.
if you want to go off the diet, that is your call, however this sounds like
something that a vitamin deficiency.

LOL! Another bogus symptom attributed to low-carb.
Here's a top ten list of more likely causes of your tongue peeling:
10. You need to keep you tongue in your mouth when sunbathing
9. You've been exposed to red kryptonite
8. You've been french kissing a leper
7. You've been drinking McDonald's coffee
6. One of your ancestors was a python
5. You've graduated from sniffing paint to lapping paint remover
4. You've been licking one of those hallucinogenic frogs
3. You've been having oral sex with Herpes victims
2. They forgot to tell you you're not supposed to eat your apricot
facial masque
and, the #1 most likely reason that your tongue is peeling:
1. The constipation that you complained about in your January 12th post
has backed up all the way to your mouth

Perhaps he has leprosy because of the lack of carbs, and his tongue is
fixing to fall off entirely!

Alright guys, come on now... The first post about top ten reasons was
halarious - I really thought that was funny, but can we be serious here
for a minute? Don't worry, I'm not blaming your low carb diet. But the
fact of the matter is, I was not given any "diet" to follow... tons of
research and posts to numerous boards questioning TKD produced very little
information. It was my understanding that the limited information I found
was all there was to it! No, I haven't read Atkins or Lyle's book - only
followed what I found on the Internet... So condem me if I didn't
consult my doctor or read the low carb library, but please don't make fun
of my situation. I'm just wondering if this has happend to any one before
on this forum and if they found the cause.

I haven't had that, but it sounds like you need to see your doctor to be checked
for yeast in the mouth. It's a common symptom of severe immune system
suppression.

Chances are good the OP did not follow the diet, got himself a vitamin
deficiency, and is now paying for it.

No, this is a stress thing. The skin inside my mouth and
on my tongue used to peel in little soggy shreds when I was
having to speak to someone important. Hasn't happened to
me in years. Not unusual, really, when you think about it.
Other than being wet, the shreds were just like flaky
skin on any other part of the body. It was just bizarrely
distracting when it happened all at once under stressful
situations.
So, yes: ick; but no, it's not from low-carb.
April.
Put out the cat.

Ever heard of Geographic Tongue?
http://www.drgreene.com/21_784.html
Check it out with Google - lots of references to it. I think it is
familial, my two cousins have it, one girl has had it since she was a baby
and the other only after she was about 25 years of age. They say it is
only annoying when they eat spicy foods and of course, they don't stick
their tongues out at anyone when they are especially "geographic."

Hi! BTW, I suppose I should introduce myself but for now I just wanted to
be nosey and see what you guys were talking about re: low carb diets.

Especially weird was the reference to "scrotal tongue" on the same page...

It happened to me some years ago as an allergic reaction to Percocet
after surgery. All the taste buds fell off in clumps over the course of
a day. It was pretty gross.
A few years before that, it happened to my friend as an allergic reaction
to tetracycline, so I knew right away what was happening to me, a couple
of hours before they started coming off, when my CranGrape tasted sour
instead of sweet, but my husband said it tasted fine.
I've never heard of it happening to anyone else, but our doctors didn't
think it was so rare.
We both couldn't eat spicy food for several years afterwards,
it was like having a baby's tongue.
