:: 156 mg/dl is not good, but it is also not terribly bad. It merely
suggests
:: that the reason you have had such a tough time with your weight in the
past
:: is that you have had abnormal blood sugar.
I never made the connection, thank you!!
:: So in a wierd way, this is GOOD. Because now when you deliver that baby,
:: you're going to get your act together, monitor your blood sugar for the
:: rest of your life, keep your carbs to where your blood sugar is normal
and
:: avoid slipping into complacency. As a result you will NEVER get diabetic
:: complications.
Great way to look at it, Jenny! I appreciate your input.
:: Also, you can ask your doctor for helpful drugs like metformin or Precose
:: that can help you lose weight once you have your babies now that you know
:: you have documented blood sugar abnormalities. The difficulty you have
had
:: with your diet in the past is probably due to the blood sugar swings you
:: were having back then.
Hmmmmmm.........
:: As far as your baby goes, she will be just fine. Every child of a
:: gestational pregnancy I've known has been. At worst she'll be a bit
bigger
:: at birth, but that doesn't mean she'll be fat when she's older. Both my
:: gestational diabetes babies weighed in at around 9 lbs at birth. One was
18
:: inches long and the other 21.5 inches long. The tall one grew up willowy
and
:: thin and currently earns a good income modeling. The short one is the
:: muscular and huge football player who does have to work to keep his body
fat
:: under control. In short, the kids' genes seem to be more important than
my
:: diabetes in how they turned out.
I'll take the 3 Hour Glucose Test and just wait and see what happens. I
can't wait to get my cravings back under control. I've let myself go
terribly.
So far, at 31 weeks I'm 25lbs heavier. I have 9 - 10 more weeks to go!
Wahoo!!

Carol Ann,
Thanks for restoring the links!
Twenty five pounds is a decent sized weight gain for a diabetic pregnancy.
You are doing great. I gained 50 lbs with each of mine, most of it in the
first 6 months. It all came off during the next year. Do try to nurse if
you can. Visit with the LaLeche league ladies now, before you have your
baby, to get some very good support and to meet some other ladies whose
babies will be the same age as yours.
It is quite possible to work full time and nurse. I did and it really helps
get that weight off, especially if you pump and store extra. The LaLeche
league ladies can help you get past any difficulties. I can't say enough for
the ones I met in both Texas (1st baby) and Connecticut (2nd).
