I started Atkins 12/27/03 and lost about 6 pounds in as many days.
Then, I stalled but that's OK since I feel different/thinner. A couple
people at work also have noticed a change ("face looks thinner") so I
figure it must be working although slower now than I had expected.
I did the two-week induction and decided I needed to expand my food
choices so I started added things and I'm glad I did. I found some LC
bread (3 digestible carbs/slice) at the health food store and have
enjoyed eggs benedict using it. Not exactly like the English muffin
type but close enough to satisfy. Also made French toast with it today
(w/egg beaters, cinnamon, Vermont LC maple syrup) and enjoyed that
tremendously.
Another great thing I discovered from this group was jello made with
Kool-Aid and sucralose. Made some yesterday using 2 pkgs gelatine, 1
pkg orange Kool-Aid and 3 TBL Splenda. Topped it with whipped cream and
it tasted like an orange creamsicle. It really satisfied my taste for
something fruity and especially orange. It will help keep me away from
OJ.
Also stumbled upon some Diet-Rite sodas in the the grocery yesterday. I
picked up the cola as well as Kiwi-Strawberry and White Grape. The
grape is very good and again satisfies the fruit craving. (Concord
Grapes are one of my favorite things.) These drinks are all made with
sucralose and are aspartame-free. I wish more stuff was like that.
Does anyone know of a source for LC cough drops made with sucralose?
One of the things that is still difficult for me is curbing smoking
urges and cough drops helped me do that. I've been off cigarettes and
caffeine for 7 months now following a heart attack and 3x CABG surgery.
I'm hoping Atkins will help my lipid profile so I can get off a statin.
I recently weaned myself from one BP med and the BP remained OK so I'm
hopeful other things will improve as a result of my diet and lifestyle
changes. (Gotta hit the gym more regularly. I'm very sporadic now but
have done some work rescheduling to allow a regular workout time.)
Anyways, after two weeks the diet choices have improved tremendously for
me and especially with changes in the breakfast menu, I can see myself
keeping with this diet with very few problems. So thanks to everyone
here for the menus and other information.

If you can find Fruit2O, that good, too.

The best thing you can do after bypass surgery is quit
smoking. Bypass grafts don't like cigarettes. That is half
the battle. You don't have too much to lose, but it will
help also. The third is regular exercise.

You're on the right track. Keep it up!

If you can find them where you live, Waist Watchers soda (by Adirondack
beverages) and Diet Hansen's are also sweetened with sucralose rather than
aspartame. They're pretty good.

RC Diet cola uses Supra, I've been drinking it since they
invented it, errr, that was about the same time I ate 10 moon
pies too.
