I wonder if anyone else has ever experienced this.  I guess you could say
that I'm a low carb veteran.  You could probably also say that I'm not
really a success story.  I've been off and on the WOE for years...originally
losing 50 pounds and I have more or less kept that weight off ever since.
But, I've never continued to lose down to my original goal weight.

Anyway, I've had plenty of experience with this WOE and over the years I
found that my Critical Carbohydrate Level for Losing must be pretty high as
I've always been able to eat as many peanuts and salad vegetables as I want
without coming out of ketosis.

So Saturday night a friend is having a big birthday dinner at a Japanese
restaurant.  I figured I could just eat ahead of time since there may not be
too many choices available to be on the menu.  As things worked out I didn't
eat beforehand and showed up at the party hungry.  I decided to just eat
whatever and I'd start fresh in the morning.  I ate a mountain of rice and
had a few beers yet I found that night and again in the morning that I was
still in ketosis.  My curiosity got the best of me so I tried to do the same
thing last night at a Mexican restaurant (had plenty of chips and tortillas)
and again found that I'm still in ketosis.  Each day I had a low carb
breakfast and I stayed away from sugar both nights.

What does this mean?  Has anyone else seen this?  Does this mean that I can
periodically have some carbs for one meal and it will not hurt me?  Do you
all think that maybe I'll stay in ketosis but not continue to lose?  But
isn't being in ketosis what really matters?  I'm sure that sugar would
surely knock me out of ketosis but now I'm wondering what would happen with
some bread, pasta or potatoes.  My desire for these foods has waned as it
always does after a few weeks of eating right but wouldn't this be easier if
I could eat almost anything in those situations that we all find ourselves
in...at a restaurant of someone else's choosing?

This is all very surprising to me and I look forward to any and all
comments.

Yes, this can work for maintainance.

No, ketosis is not all that matters.

My Ketosis experience has been different.  I had been in "Moderate" ketosis
for a few weeks.  Friday night I ate out at an Indian restaurant that was
serving a buffet of Chinese food.  I skipped the dessert, bread like things,
and dumpling type things (the obvious carbs).  I ate two platefuls of meat
based dishes, which included sauces and breading.  It was very spicy hot and
wonderful.

The next morning my Ketostix read "Negative."  By Sunday I was reading
"Small."

Today, Monday, it reads "Trace."

I guess I blew it.

YMMV

The liver acts as a buffer storing and releasing glycogen.  Perhaps
people differ in the way they metabolize carbs because of this?  In my
own experience a carb up can increase my appetite for several days.

Carb cycling methods such as frequent targeted keto don't work for me
because of this.  On the positive side using less frequent cycling
doesn't give me headaches the day after and my increased energy level
stays up for several days.

G-Man. . . Some LC plans allow for higher-carb meals from
time-to-time.  Be careful, though, because letting yourself eat
whatever you want can be a slippery slope.  At first, you don't gain
(or you even lose), and all of a sudden, that voice is back in your
head saying "see, you don't have to be so strict."

Then a few pounds start creeping back in, but you think "hey, a couple
pounds isn't too bad.  I can just go on induction and whoosh 'em back
off."  But you never do, because you're enjoying yourself.  Suddenly,
you find yourself stretching out the waistline of your 44's.
