On a packet of nuts i have just bought it says carbs 7.8 grms and fibre 6.2
per 100 grms so that would give a net carb for atkins purposes of 1.6 is
that right because according to the book about 30 grms of nuts equal 5 grms
carbs so i am now totally confused.

Not all nuts are the same.

Is true, the walnuts I have purchased lately says 3 carbs with 3 fiber.
allowing a 0 carb count. Still have to watch the quantity though because
of calories.  Usually crush up a handful and add to cream cheese and
roll it in shredded cheese to make my own cheeseball.

Sounds good!

Somehow, I doubt that 0 carb count.

Walnuts have carbs. Some or all of the fiber has already been subtracted
from the total carb count.

People who are serious about low carbing need to be increasingly watchful as
low carb gets more popular . Some manufacturers and restaurants are really
going to play fast and loose with net effective carb counts.

Ah, that's our Roger.  Any time the subject line says
"nuts", you can bet he'll be a contributor!  : )

What nuts? pecans, walnuts, almonds, filberts? You've got to be more
specific.

In the UK, the fiber is pre-deducted from the carb count, so you need to
count the full 7.8 g.

I am based in the Uk so this would now made more sense.  The nuts i bought
were peanuts, but i have had the same problem with almonds which i have as a
nibble during the day.

Thanks for help.

Maxine,

Nuts are frequently mislabeled, with the fiber already deducted from the
carbohydrate totals.  You'd be safest using the USDA database counts for the
variety you are eating.
