20 lbs down 50 to go:
I've been on Atkins for about 6 weeks, stayed on induction for 3, but
advanced to OWL for a variety of foods. Chosen carefully 25 carbs is a lot
of food. For me extra salads or  hot veggie with dinner.

I know that induction is safe to stay in up to 6 months, but I don't want to
add more carbs yet- I like that cushion, in case a portion is larger than I
anticipated. Only add a dessert if I've remained under my quota. I can't see
any harm in this. At 5'8" I don't know what my  Critical Carbohydrate Level
for Losing (CCLL) will be, and afraid to find out. maybe when I get closer
to my goal of 150- that I still can't believe I'll ever see.

Diane

My current helper   stick the family dinner in the oven  (most meats roast
for 1 hr) and hop onto the tread mill and get lost into a TV show- Oprah is
a current fav, also animal planet and the food network. If I cooked before,
the treadmill was getting forgotten, and being late in the day work isn't an
excuse. Keeping the Atkins Journal www.atkins.com  is an extra assignment,
but is keeping my unstructured self in line.

Why don't you follow Atkin's advice? Carbs are not evil and the amount of
them you eat, or don't eat, is not the only factor to determine your weight
loss.  The good doctor has much more experience with this plan than you are
I, so why don't you follow the plan?

Find your CCLL and carry though with the rest of the plan.

Perhaps you should think of the additional carbs as not meaning you
eat additional food, so much as you substitute. Remember, the idea is
to satisfy yourself, not stuff yourself. And working vegetables in
while cutting down on the meat can leave you satisfied.

If you don't start testing your metabolism's tolerance for carbs and
weight loss, you won't know what you can afford, and risk falling off
the plan due to a lack of variety. You also risk bypassing your goal
weight: you could hit your goal weight and never stop unless you know
the carbs you can afford.

Be patient: you WILL hit your goal weight through OWL. (The food on
OWL also costs less than the food on induction, because vegetables
cost less than meat.)

NEVER stop? You mean you could get down to zero pounds?  Lol!

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Everyone is afraid.  Don't let that stop you from following the
directions.  Every week is fightening.  Step out in faith.

False.  Atkins will not take you below your real ideal weight.
As you have less to lose, the metabolic edge of ketosis gets
smaller and smaller and the loss rate falls.  The loss rate hits
zero when you reach your ideal weight.

Thanks for the input guys.  I have a long way to go and am losing about 1.5
lbs a week so I don't think I'll pass my goal anytime soon. Its just nice to
see the scale go down for a change!

I could think of lots of junk to add to a menu- but right now, I feel a
power in finding healthy foods to eat. Amazing, I actually forgot what I
bought at the store yesterday, meaning, I haven't dove into the groceries! I
got some sugar free peanut butter for my celery, and small tomatoes that are
easy to count- The tomato mixed with mayo and tuna was good. If I want
another veggie, I'll take it, so I'm eating between 20 -25 at this point.  I
need  to learn some recipes, which there are many to choose from.

It does take 6 weeks to develop a habit. That's about how long I've been on
Atkins.

I have stayed between 20-30 carbs since October, don't really plan on
adding more for quite awhile yet. BG has been normal without meds,
weight is coming off, and decided at that time I started, this is my

Me, too, since January last year. Each time I try to add carbs above 20
or 30, my weight starts going up. I could stand to lose another 10
pounds.
