curt - 19 Jan 2004 22:10 GMT I was watching Judge Judy, I kind of hate that show, but a preview of the news came on and they said Atkins diet revised, why too much fat may be bad for you. What is going on? Dr Atkins dies and all hell breaks loose? I have been reading headlines on other sources of news. Is this whole diet changing now? I find I lose the most weight when I eat more fat. Hamburgers is my best meal if I am looking to lose the most.
What do you all think? Is this just marketing to the masses? It seems the diet has changed quite a bit from the start. I mean all these Atkins products (I personally wouldn't eat any), and now a different view on fat?

Roger Zoul - 19 Jan 2004 22:19 GMT It doesn't affect me. I didn't eat lots of sat fat anyway....too many calories in those foods.
I think they lose credibilty to change the diet around AFTER Atking dies. If you ask me, that sucks.
There is no question that this is done for mass marketing. That's really all that Atkins is about -- now.

There's Atkins Nutritionals, purchased by new majority shareholders, and the non-profit Atkins Foundation, Dr. Atkins legacy, which will continue to fund research into controlled carbing for health.

So which one is changing up the diet? Is this change the result of new research results that convincingly prove that sat fat is bad in a LC diet or is this to keep the Atkins machine riding high now that there are competitors?

AN is doing the selling and promotion and Heimowitz is the spokesperson. The foundation just quietly funds research.

Since Atkins died , his medical practice closed. All energy is being poured now into marketing control carbed frankenfoods. No more is anyone at Atkins helping sick people like the doctor did through his belief of a low carb lifestyle. Stooped at a 7-11 and saw a pamphlet put out by Atkins recently that gave a sample menu of induction. In the sample menu, they listed some Atkins control carbed products to eat for induction.
HOWEVER There is NO mention is any Atkins book where you are permitted to eat controlled carb foods during induction.
See, marketing by the current people at Atkins are sh.tting all over the good doctor for the sake of money, a damn shame.

I suppose he helped lots of sick rich folks.

I eat the way I eat and decide whether I want to eat saturated fats or other fats--and whether fats are just too caloric and a slightly higher-carb option may be better.
More basic agreement, so I won't ramble on.

PrinceHalsChase - 19 Jan 2004 23:55 GMT Yeah. I would NEVER say I'm on the ATKINS diet anymore, just that I'm low carbing. It's ashmed what they are doing to Atkins' name. =========================================================== "Someday I know we'll live those dreams we left so far behind' You'll never know unless you try, to see what's yours and mine"
HeadRusch - 20 Jan 2004 00:11 GMT Guys, how much of this "new revelation" isn't just common sense??
Seriously, when you hear about something eating bacon and steak for breakfast, lunch and dinner, every day...(which is how alot of people think of Adkins), does it not ring a bell that "Hello! Thats not healthy??".
Eating less carbs is one thing, a smart move..taking refined sugar products out, or severely limiting them, another good idea..balancing out your bloodsugar, all good ideas. Replacing those carbs with lean meats? Seems to make sense to me.
But scarfing "All the high fat foods you can eat, all the time"?? That sounds like more wishful thinking than smartness.
I seriously think that there are alot of really, really, really desperate people out there who have stopped THINKING, and just thrown themselves into whatever miracle-cure they can find. "Atkins says I can eat bacon and sausage, SO I EAT THEM EVERY DAY!"..then they get all sick and miserable and wallow around untilt he next miracle-cure comes along.......when I think the real message of Low Carbing, Atkins or Not, seems to be one of moderated process....take out the carbs from your diet for a short while, then re-introduce them. While you are taking them out, replace them with satisfying smaller portions of lean meats (as fats in smaller portions make you feel as full as carbs in larger portions)...and occasionally splurge on the fats, because your body chemestry can deal with them better......but all the time? Doesn't seem like a smart idea to me.
Any more than "Eat 12 grapefruts a day" or "Cabbage Soup will let you lose 30 lbs in a month!"

I wonder if that is one of the reasons for the changes. I mean Subway and Atkins are going to make a ton of money on those wraps. They are getting rave reviews.
I wouldn't say I am on Atkins anymore myself. I really just eat natural foods. Steak, chicken, pork and so on and good green veggies. I am not into all the prepackaged garbage.
Oh well, I think Dr. Atkins book, the one I have is the real diet. That was before Atkins foods and such.

The media is way off I guess. I am so disgusted with the media, it isn't funny. I don't know what the heck is going on with all this. First Jeb Bush pulls strings to get his brother in as President and the media just lies about whatever they want to. I just feel I can't trust anything at all. I feel as if I am just living in a sea of lies. I guess this is an accumulation of crap, and I am so tired of it. What a world. No, I don't want to get into a political discussion. No one will change my mind about that Florida voting situation, so don't bother. We live in a very corrupt country with many corrupt people IMHO.
Sorry about my rant, but I am just tired of this sh.t. Curt

Curt,
I'm sorry about your rant, too. But this just got me more than a little miffed. Whatever perceived notions there were about how GWB got elected, it's water under the bridge. Almost four years later and people still can't seem to let go. Move on, man!

I lost all faith in our government when that happened. They say get out and vote. I do, but know they will just fix the election anyway. Now Bush is making a bunch of immigrants citizens to get more votes. What is next? When will this end? Not in my lifetime, so I suppose you are right, I should just bury my head in the sand as did most all America.
Ok btt.
