hello. i did atkins in 02 and lost 50 lbs and got off and gained 20 back,
well i am doing induction now and i drive a truck at work and love my
sunflower seeds {i get the arts which have lower sodium than the other
availiable ones} they keep me from smoking so much and wanting to graze
along the road.
now looking at the carb count they seem low but i think they are messing up
my induction.
ive lost 5 lbs in 1.5 weeks and feel good but am having the "grilled stuft"
jones really bad, my weakness is mexican food!
i really have the seafood cravings this time and have been taking canned
meats with me and making meat salads.
i also like almonds peanuts nuts of all kinds and doing salads alot.
not so much meat this time around.
so whats the deal with spits?

Sunflower seeds in the shell make a great low carb snack. They're full of
healthy oils and not much carb. And they help keep your digestive system
moving.
The only problem you might run into them is with the salt, which common
sense suggests is higher than they list on the label. I sometimes gain a
bit of water weight after eating them.
Also, they're a bit more caloric than the labels suggest because there are
more seed kernals by weight in a Lays pack than the label lists. I checked
this out one day by weighing the shells to see how much the seeds actually
weighed after noticing a huge discrepency between the nutritional info on
the Planters bag. It turns out that the Planter's nutritional information
is much more accurate for a 3 ounce serving than the Lays.
So figure 220-250 calories per 3 oz pack if you're counting calories and
don't eat 3 a day and expect to lose weight!

Wow Jenny you did your homework!
I would like to add to your posting that sunflowers are extremely
addictive - specifically the ones in the shell. I had a rough time kicking
the habit :-)
Skidfalp, May suggest pistachios as an alternate snack. However if the
sunflowers are keeping you away from the ciggys I can't argue with that
logic.

I'm addicted to the roasted sunflower kernels, not so much the seed. I limit to
a 1/4 cup a day with no problems, though I wish they'd come out with a lower
salt version.

You can also get them roasted without salt. (Not commercially packaged, but
some supermarkets and most candy/nut stores sell them this way.) Once I started
eating them I found I MUCH preferred them to the salted. You can actually
TASTE the sunflower seeds instead of the salt!
