Food Advertising -- does it bother you?

Just wondering if other people have had the same experience I'm having
now (on 2nd week of induction) -- all of a sudden I notice *every*
food ad, and actually have to flip the channel or turn the page to get
away from it -- can't look at it anymore. Not eating so many things, I
also realize how much food advertising there is. The media is making a
lot of noise about obesity levels in this country, but if you look at
how many food ads the average person sees in a day (with the message
to eat, eat, eat), I don't think it's all that surprising.  Rebeq

It didn't bother me --- but I know how you feel. When my wife gave up
smoking we made the mistake of renting "Casablanca."

Sometimes it bothers me, and sometimes not. I'll tell you one thing
though, all that low carb stuff they're coming out with and the
commercials for them bother me most, because I think "wow, I can have
that", then manage to chow my way through a whole carton of Atkins
Endulge Chocolate/Peanut Butter Swirl or something equally "low carb."
I'm finding it best to stay away from most of that on most days too. :-)

Yup! It can be really tempting at times, but that's why they sink millions
into advertising. There are times that the Food channel sends me wandering
into the kitchen 'looking for something', too. :>)

Nope.  I make a game out of it.  Either try to guess how
many carbs are in the product or think of a way to make it
low carb myself.

I'm not tempted by the commercials, but I'm MUCH more aware of them.  I entertain
myself by feeling superior for not eating them anymore :-)  With my newfound
awareness of the nutritional value of what I eat and the new perspective, I agree
that it's kind of horrifying to see these advertisers push SO MUCH total CRAP on
the public.  We are absolutely INUNDATED with it!  It's also horrifying to
realize how much *I* used to eat of so many of those same products.

That is the whole purpose of commercials... why do you think
they sink millions of dollars into advertising. They believe they
can influence the way to think, which will translate into sales.
The sole purpose of the commercial is to get you to want their
product.

You are right in thinking that advetising is probably one of the
contributing factors to the obesity problem. Sort of a more
subtle version of the old 'Outer Limits' introduction, but instead
of controlling your TV set, they attempt to control your cravings.

The answer is to be strong. Be your own person. Take charge!
