Greetings,

I am looking for resources (websites, books, links) that deal with
low-carbing during pregnancy.
Making sure the mother-to-be gets all the nutrition she needs, what to
eat, what not to, everything.
DW has been on Atkins since the past 4 months, is within 10lbs of
goal.
She was in the Pre-Maintenance stage when we got the good news.

So, looking for further steps and advice.

Thanks.

Find a doctor who is low-carb-friendly to see your wife through the
pregnancy.

Thanks, everyone, for the ideas.
We are both concerned that up until 2 days back, we didn't know that
DW was pg, so she was LCing as usual and was in ketosis.
She has been in ketosis for the most part since we started Atkins back
in Sep.

Would the fact that she has been in ketosis for the first 2 weeks have
any negative impact on the foetus?

As soon as we found out that it is positive, she had 3 slices of bread
and half a glass to milk to jump out of ketosis.
She is out of ketosis since then.

Thanks for any help.

I don't believe that ketosis in pregnancy will cause problems.  I belong to
a Yahoo group "Pregnant Atkids" - many women there are LC'ing and in ketosis
for a lot of their pregnancies.  They report totally healthy pregnancies and
babies.  Myself, I haven't been overly good with my diet during my
pregnancy, except for the last 6 weeks when I have been LC'ing.  During
these last 6 weeks, I have maintained the same weight, and baby is doing
wonderfully.  I fully intend to LC for the remaining 10 weeks.

Best of luck to you and your wife.

Hi, Tara!

Glad to hear your pregnancy is going well.  I'm up (at last weight) 25lbs.
I have 8 - 9 weeks to go!  Wahoo!

I did have to take the 3 Hour Glucose Tolerance Test yesterday and am hoping
that I do not have gestational diabetes.  I should have maintained my low
carb way of eating throughout the pregnancy.  I could have avoided this
hassle.

Wahoo!  We are having babies!

Thanks, Tara, for your response.
We know about that Yahoo group and she is already signed up on that.
Thanks for your help again.

Ask your obgyn. If she eats good stuff, like vegetables and good
animal producs, plant fats, fish etc, and generally gets enough
calories to support the baby, I see no reason why the baby would have
any trouble. You do not need to gorge on candy and ice cream during
pregnancy, you know. Just be sensible, try not to lose more, and don't
overeat... Try to get your vitamins, including folic acid, from real
food and not from pills, make sure you are getting the right quantity
for pregnant women though. Numerous foods contain folic acid.

Our obgyn told us to just eat normally and good stuff and not obsess
about food. Good stuff does not include candy and junk food though.
