Hey all,

my GF just started this Atkins thing a few days ago, and so I'm to try and
keep her on it. However, I have a stupid question: Why is that atkins
friendly wrap at Subway NOT for induction? It's below the 20 carbs, so what
am I missing? I'm trying to help her, but I don't understand it all.....

What foods should/could she eat during this phase? She really likes food,
but wants to knock about 30 lbs off. Already she's looking for low carb ice
cream and what not. help!

A couple of reasons:

* Induction is about breaking the carb addiction.  The approved foods
are high in fat and very low in carbs to get you through this phase
 as fast as possible.

* Foods that mimic "forbidden" foods may trigger cravings, and you
 don't want those during induction.

* The 20g carbs need to be saved for your salad veggies, eggs,
cheeses, etc.  An 11g wrap uses up half your carbs for the day,
which makes it hard to fit in all the filling foods that help you
 get through Induction.

Those that are on the approved foods list, of course.  It's in the
book and on the web site.

They don't fit in because you're supposed to get the 20g from veggies like
salad, brocolli, spinach.  If you want to help her, get her an Atkins book.
If I were in her situation, I would really love you if you bought that book
for me.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

In addition to that, do LC with her.  You don't have to try to lose weight
(don't do induction, for example), but cutting out the high carb foods when
you're with her will help her.  Also, read the book and/or the website
yourself, and help her make the right choices when you're with her.

And since you're here asking questions, you're already on the right path.
Good for you.

Are those low-carb tortillas on the list of foods allowed during induction? No?
Well, there's your answer. ;-)

I agree with the responses already posted, but will add this: if she finds the
20 grams too restrictive and there's a chance she will ultimately give up and
won't stick with Atkins, you should have her  look into Protein Power, which
allows 30 grams a day on its more liberal induction. Here you can easily fit in
an Atkins wrap and have plenty of carbs left over for the day. I've done both
methods of induction, and lose pounds just as quickly on PP.

No doubt.  Induction, while it has some benefits, it not necessary to
successful weight loss on LC.

Since the 20 gram phase of Atkins only lasts 14 days, this is nonsense.
If she finds 20 too restrictive have her move on to phase 2 on schedule
on day 15 and be at 25, and have her follow the schedule of increases
as written in the book.  20 is only for people who decide to extend
Induction.  Absolutely not mandatory and in fact not the core Atkins
process.

"Only" lasts 14 days? There are many folks who can't stick to strict induction
for even 4 days and give up low carbing completely. My point is there are other
low carb plans that are just as effective and easier for some people.

After a 4 month break I started Atkin's again.....this time with my
girlfriend joining me.  She hummed and hawed t the limitation of only
20 grams of carbs a day saying that she couldn't do it.  so we decided
that 30 would be better for her to try for a few days at the
beginning.  She still finds it a little restrictive at times but after
a week she is holding strong and the complaints are getting fewer and
fewer as she knows now what she can eat.

I myself am limiting myself to 15 or less per day.  We are oth in
Ketosis from day 3

"Atkins friendly" does NOT mean the same thing as "allowed during Induction".
Induction is a very specifically designed process that has reasons behind
it.  From these reasons a list of allowed foods was built.  "Atkins
friendly" is a marketing jingle that ignores those reasons.

There is perfectly fine Induction food available at Subway.  Have the
{any 6" sub as a salad} deal.  Add Induction allowed stuff, use only
oil and vinegar dressing.
