Low carb products I'd like to see

I'd like to have some frozen meals, made with real products and
vegetables. I'd like less snacks and ice cream (those -- and beer and
pizza -- are how I got fat in the first place) and things with
"polydextrose" and "maltitol" and other evil-sounding names.  Stuff that's
high in fat but low in crap.  Meals made with dark meat chicken, beef,
fish, scallops, etc.

It's great that Stop and Shop has low carb stuff, but most of it is
snacks, ice cream, bread products, etc.  Give me meals that I can eat once
in a while when I'm too tired to cook!

Walmart carries the Chef's Choice frozen meals.  They are real food, only
veggies, chunks of meat and cheese in a sauce (depending on the one ya
choose.).  They are really good for convenience.

They are also full of WAY too much salt.. over 60% RDA in some, all at 50%
or more.
Make extra of whatever you cook when you do feel like it and freeze... then
you've always got something handy. the reason most of what you find is snack
food is because *most* of what you give up with this way of eating is.. the
high carb snacky stuff. You can find precooked strips of beef and chicken..
keep them in the freezer and grab a bag of salad mix when you don't want to
cook.. throw a few veggies and the meat on top and you've got a decent low
carb meal.

They are acceptable as frozen foods go, but if you read the ingredients,
it seems a lot less like "real" food.  They're also fairly skimpy in
the serving of vegetables.  Seems to be a lot of crap in the sauces.

I do keep a couple around for occasional lunch when I don't have any
dinner leftovers and don't feel like fixing anything, though.

I read the list of ingredients on one some such dinner during my
recent walmart visit, the list was as long as the talmud. It could be
that all those components ening in -ose, -in, -ate etc are safe, it
could be that they are not, I have no way of knowing. I figure, I can
just eat a bunch of vegetables and a couple of pieces of meat instead
of those dinners. I do not have any specific information about whether
those dinners are harmful.

I dont use any LC products. Mainly just meat and salad.
The one thing I miss is snack food.  I just dont like the
LC snacks and think they slow the process.  I travel and
its tough to drive 10-12 without wanting something.  Nuts slow
me down as well.  I have been buying cracked pepper turkey breast
from Sams and taking it with me all sliced up for something to
munch on.
It was too much eating al together rather than just snacking that
contributed to my gaining weight.
Hopefully the new LC items are really LC and the makers are not just trying
to make some dough.

I read 'weight watchers' was supposed to come out with some low carb TV
dinners, but there aren't any at my local Albertson's.  There is a stick-on
sign advertising them on the refrigerated display case, but all the products
inside are high carb, like spaghetti and thick crust pizza.

It's funny. I don't *miss* having pizza, although I used to like it very
well. But I'm looking for a new condo and when I spend my first night
there, I'm already planning on having pizza delivered. Somehow it just
fits with the just moved in motif.

If there's any left over the next morning, I'm throwing it out and heading
to the farmers' market. <g>

The red box Smart Ones are out - "asian beef with veggies", various
chicken (marsala, etc) with various combinations of veggies (one had
yellow and green squash).  They are small like the regular Smart Ones
- about 9 ounces, 230 calories, 8- 12 effective carbs.  Stop and Shop,
Shaws and Star have them in the freezer section with the Lean Cuisine.
The Lean Cuisine "low-carb" are tiny and much higher in carbs, 15 -25,
too high for me to consider.   Kalish

To say nothing of the fact that they contain very few calories.
Also, I think Bob is looking for something with less adulterants.

Those would be called Mike's Lifestyle Gourmet.  Pricy, but
real--with two nice servings of veggies per meal.

Well, the chicken seems to be breast meat; there are  also beef
ribs (or I should say there is a boneless short rib, which can be
very good and can be disgusting) and salmon.  Who is going to
start a new line that is all food and nothing that we don't cook
with in our own kitchens.

Yes, we could use more of that.  I'm afraid the new LC entrees
from Lean Cuisine and Smart Ones may bomb, because they are not
what you describe.

I saw these at the supermarket this weekend for the first time. I *nearly*
bought the salmon one, but then saw it was $12.89! Yikes, I threw it back in
a hurry. I can go to Charlie Brown's and get a decent freshly-cooked LC meal
including a fabulous salad bar for the same price.

candy, cakes, ice cream, cadbury mild choc., donuts, hershey
kisses...........hot fudge, brioche, etc.      Yes, if these things
could be truly low carb and still TASTE the same as they do know, that
would be wonderful!  I guess I will dream on.

12.99???!?!  Where do you live?  Here they are 6.99, and the
salmon is 7.99--very expensive but not 12.99, thank goodness!
They have been on $1-off sales a few times, but I'd like to see
steeper discounts.  (Well, who wouldn't!)

i totally agree... this diet, actually ANY weight loss succeeds when
it becomes a way of life, not just a matter of substitutions.  i'd
love to see more boxed frozen grilled chicken, less breaded stuff.

what i'd REALLY like to see is the industries get their priorities
straight and bring the cost of meat down so that pre-packaged meals
containing real food don't cost an arm and a leg.

It *was* down, until Atkins caught on and nearly doubled it about a
year ago.  Supply and demand, you know.

Got a freezer? I have an hour commute each way and I rarely leave work
before 6:00. I do a good bit of cooking on weekends, some to leave in the
refrigerator for meals during the week, the rest I freeze. If you package
it individually, it's easy enough to get one meal's worth without having
to defrost the whole lasagna (or chicken legs, or whatever). Sometimes the
veggies are included in the meal I've put together, other times I just
pour out a bowlful of lettuce and make a dressing (2 minutes and 4
calories burned in shaking it up).

So far, I've never had anything that didn't stand up acceptably to having
been frozen for some time.

Ugh!  My daughter won't even eat their high-carb pizza.  (She was
eating my crustless ones for a while (cheese as crust) but seems
not to be in the mood for them now.)

I'm not crazy about Domino's either, but all the chains seem to be leaping
on the bandwagon.

Actually, my maintenance regimen includes the occasional slice of cheese at
the very best pizza place in WMass (Antonio's in Greenfield). I only eat 1/2
of the crust and I take Precose to control the blood sugar, but it really
does make me feel like I'm a regular human being again.

Unfortunately, I only get to do this when I'm exercising, but I've messed up
my back again which is putting a crimp in my treadmill regimen. <sigh>
