I don't remember the exact scientific reason, but the general consensus
among the more scientific-types here are that carb blockers are a big
waste of money. Someone will respond soon enough with the details, I'm
sure.
This article may help...:

I'm not sure if OTC carb blockers work, but my wife's doctor gave her
a sample of Starlix prescription tablets which he called the
Thanksgiving Day pill.
My wife is a Type II diabetic and Starlix (nateglinide) is used to
level off spikes of blood-sugar levels that occur during and
immediately after meals. Not sure if one would consider this a carb
blocker or not?
According to the information on some of the web sites, Starlex is to
be taken daily, but the doctor said my wife could take them just
before a big holiday meal and not on a daily basis.
Does anybody else use Starlix tablets or know anything about them?
Thanks.

Nothing is wrong. It is harder to lose weight when you are so close to
normal weight. Just expect it to be harder. I am 176, 5'11", and it is
very hard to lose weight further. I am taking my time, since I am
already beyond my goal weight and simply want to trim down a bit for
2004.
You need to eat less and exercise well.

No, they do not work.

Hi Group,
Garth here.
It's been a rough time since I posted last. While probably only three months
or so it's seems worlds away.
To wrap it up in a nut shell, I got the flu in November and made the bad
choice to fall off Atkins. Since it was almost Thansgiving before I
recovered I didn't feel like doing induction through the holiday.
Then came the move to Florida followed shortly by Tracy and I breaking up.
Due to the breakup, I pretty much stopped eating, and if you're not eating
it really doesn't matter what you're not eating :)
Before the break up I probably put about 10 lbs back on but then lost 22 lbs
in 10 days, followed by a few since then.
I have also finally been exercising (amazing what sitting alone in a big
place can do for motivation).
Anyway, now I am ready to get back on Akins, although I guess I should say
go on Atkins as the first time - while I was very successful with it while
it lasted - I was doing what I thought Atkins was. This time I bought the
book and read it. I plan to go into Induction on Monday. As there are two
very good Japanese restraunts in the area I would like to make sushimi a
large part of this. I know the tuna and salmon are fine. My question is
about Soy sauce, wasabi and seaweed salad? The book (and the website) really
don't talk much about non-mainstream foods. Does anyone have any carb
count/glycemic index values for these items? Or any pro/con advice on the
subject?
I would think seaweed would be great nutritionally but I haven't a clue what
it's carbs would be?
Thanks again for your help
Garth

Well YOU'VE certainly had a crappy time of it lately! Welcome back to the group!
Focusing on getting back on the wagon, exercising and eating right is a good way
to get your bearings again. Keep on reading and posting!

Thanks Saffire.
That is my plan. At times in the past like this I have picked up very
destructive habits. This time I have been putting my efforts, energies and
distractions into self-improvement. Seems to be working, and I will do what
I can to keep at it.

We LOVE before and after photos! There are many free services where you can post

The new formulation (any brand that says "Phase 2" on it) is supposed
to work on starchy carbs (like bread, spuds, white rice) but NOT on
sugar. That's what I've read, anyway. Kalish

Well I had today prime rib with 2 cups of brocolli and butter
and a diet rite (kinda felt weird taking the can out my gfriend hangbag on
the restauirant)
and then I had 1 piece of sugarless pie and a decaf coffee with 2 tbs of
half and half.
and before that I had the 2 pills for the carb cheater if tomorrow I go up
to 185 or so, i am returning pills to them and I will try to do induction
for 1 week to start off normal again.

when you are on a low carb diet even stuff that normally would be
bypassed like sugar alcohols can be and usually are converted into
usable carbs. Carb blockers MIGHT have a slight effect on those eating
a normal diet but very little to no effect for those on a carb reduced
diet. Also a good reason not to eat those sweet protein bars that are
sweetened with sugar alcohols.

If you are body building then you would be putting on muscle which is
dense and heavy from my understanding-therefore if you are body
building you should understand that you will bulk up-gain weight--all
of it muscle. That muscle will also help to burn more. If youre
getting stronger, then you should probably assume that you are trading
fat weight for muscle weight.
