Hey all - I've been lurking for a while and just started Atkins on
Monday.  I'm still new to this shopping thing, and the reason I'm
going on Atkins is because between job and other commitments, I found
myself eating out of my car 4 days out of the week for the last year
... needless to say, it shows.

Anyways, here's my first Q ... I was at the Whole Foods Market today
and was dying to eat something besides salad and meat.  I didn't have
my book handy, so I mistakenly remembered Snap Peas as being okay on
induction ... got home and looked, and it was SNOW ... not Snap peas.
so .. my question is this ... is a cup of Snap peas okay ?  Or should
they just get dumped.

I'm a stickler for the rules, and if this diet doesn't work on me, it
sure aint going to be because I didn't follow instructions.

Hi Elvin, welcome to the group!  I'd dump or give away the peas.

Well, Fitday doesn't have "snap peas" but they did have "snap beans."

Snap Beans

1 cup

Calories: 34.1
Total Carb: 7.85g
  Fiber: 3.74g

Snowpeas

1 cup

Calories: 41.16
Total Carb: 7.41g
  Fiber: 2.55g

Well, they look pretty similar to me, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

"Snap peas" are also called "snow peas" or more ominously "sugarsnap
peas". Unfortunately, I can't find nutrion information for them,
except one product package that claims 4 oz has 9gm of CHO including
3gm of fiber, for a net of 6gm per 4oz.

Peas, edible podded, 1 cup, 11.3 carbs less 4.5 fiber, net 6.8.  Not too bad
if you aren't eating a lot of other carby things.  I love them raw, they
would be great used sparingly in a salad.

Not where I live.
Snap peas are the same as Sugar Snap Peas - fat pods with fat peas inside. They
are not on the induction list.
Snow peas are the same as Chinese Pea Pods - very flat, with little tiny peas
inside. They are on the induction list.
Snap beans are green beans, or pole beans, or string beans - the regular green
beans served at any given meal. Also on the induction list.

Snap Peas are pea pods that have been bred so that the pod is edible
the way a snow pea is. Unlike a snow pea, they have formed the full
peas inside. Peas are not on the diet due to the higher sugar content.
Snap peas are delicious--I eat them raw off the vine in the garden.

Unfortunately they should be dumped.

Snow Peas are listed on the 10% veggies. Meaning they have a more
elvated level of sugar than the low-sugar greens. So be conscious of
that in your portions/carb counts.

I use celery, olives (without pimentos), mushroom and peppers to vary
the salad. ALso Hormel's Real Bacon Bits are 0 carbs (other brands add
something). That tastes good, especially with a ranch or blue cheese
dressing (Marie's Blue Cheese has less than 1 gm per 2 tbsp)

Thanks for your help, everyone ... I guess I'll dump them just to be
safe.  I like to play by the rules.  Now off to go grill some raw pork
non-preserved kielbasa....
