Hi there

Did you find that after starting a lowcarb WOE, you had a change in
what you like and not like?
I am very happy that I appreciate veggies so much more than before. Or
that I can appreciate *food* in general so much more, without feeling
guilty with every bite I take.

The only thing I am a bit disappointed in is that ... I don't like
some cheeses anymore. I used to like camembert and brie a lot and when
I saw that I could eat them in moderation after induction, I was
really looking forward to that. And when the time came... I hated
them. It was like taking a bite out of a piece of butter. I tried it a
couple of times, thinking I didn't like the brand of cheese, but that
is definitely not the case.
I have experienced changes of taste in high-carb food on this WOE
now, I know I can have a nibble of a high-carb food and the taste
won't trigger a craving, but so far, every single one of those nibbles
have been *very* disappointing. The sugar is just too much for me, and
I just don't think those bites are worth it. But the cheese puzzles
me...
I just wondered if any of you had such a change in taste of a lowcarb
food after being on the WOE for a while? Or maybe the cheese is just
playing tricks with me. ;)

Take care,

Ina

Absolutely.

Me too!

As far as cheese goes...
I'm finding that I like harder, sharper cheeses more than ever now.  And the
softer cheeses like brie... I don't even want them (I used to like brie,
too).  Give me some extra sharp cheddar that is so sharp instead of slicing
it kind of crumbles.  Mmmmmmmm.

Me three. But I think it's more because I was accustomed to cheese with
crackers or bread. Now that they're on their own, I have to get use to new
tastes.

My food preferences have changed big time.

I now *like* raw spinach. Believe it or not! I feel that now that I am
liberated from junk food, my food preferences guide me to relatively
optimal eating, if I limit my total calories.

I'm still in induction, but I did notice that around days #3-#6 I
thought food was very bland tasting. Even bacon & breakfast sausage
which are things I love to occasionally eat seemed tasteless. Days
later I notice food starting tasting for flavorful. Those tasteless
days were also the ones with significant cravings.

Definitely. My husband started his diet in 2002 and we noticed over
the next several months that his tastes changed. Probably due to the
severe cut back in the amount of sugar he was eating compared to
before. He now notices the natural sweetness in most fruits and
vegetables and he finds the smell of candy overpowering.

We had previously cut out a lot of salt from our diets, and that also
affected how we taste food.

Yes - salad, partly because I can put the whole fat dressing
on it.

Never lost my taste for any cheese.  That's a red-light food
for me.  Moderation is hard when it comes to cheese.

My SO made homemade pizza crust yesterday, one of the things
I sorely miss.  I took about a 1/2" square of the crust and
it was definitely still good.  But that's all I wanted.

Definitely.  Green beans got sweet, sf sodas & sf jello got too sweet!  I
really enjoy a lot of veggies now & have a spinach jones--I can eat it for
b-fast.  And I can't tolerate (what I call) those cheap bagged shredded cheeses
anymore.  If it's not really good cheese, I won't eat it.

Ina, I've often noticed a considerable change in the taste of brie from when
I initially open it (bland) to days or weeks later (sometimes strong)  --
this might account for part of the difference in taste that you notice.
Also, as a later poster mentioned, it could be due to the lack of crackers.
(I love brie by itself, but it is certainly much *neater* to eat on
crackers!)
