Preesi - 23 Jan 2004 15:38 GMT Evidently Low Carb does not work for me or my Mother or her Sister. Combined, we gained about 45 pounds. After the initial 5 pounds water weight I lost that made my pants fit (between South Beach and Atkins), I started packing on fat and have since gained 17 pounds! I followed it to a T, and the other day put a typical menu into Fitday and it told me I was doing it perfectly. The rest of my Moms family it works great for, just not us. Its probably why my TOM is so screwed up on LC! Im not going to knock LC as it apparently works for others quite well, just not for me. Its pissing me off because I REALLY REALLY REALLY wanted LC to work very badly and I gave it 3 months, but it didnt. Im going to go back to low fat or even try the Weight Watchers book...
As for the nice people on this board Thank You for that niceness.
As for the immature nasty jealous ones? God loves you too and one day you will get past your negative mindset and be happy inside. Ill pray for that.
Aside from looking for a job (its hard after not having to work for 13 years) and my Master finally coming to live with me in a month, Im not gonna have any time at all for posting anywhere.
So have a good one Be Well and wishing you all many whooshdays!
An extremely happy, preesi

Forget about all these diets which few stay on and fewer lose weight and maintain it for life. You eat and drink too much, nothing more, nothing less.

Frankly, I was having concerns about you. Since the time you've been here you seem to have posted a lot about LC goodies of one sort or another You can't be eating all that stuff and expect to lose weight.
If you gained 17 pounds you were simply eating too much. There is no magic to LC -- if you overeat, you'll gain weight -- especially if you include "goodies" in your diet.
:: The rest of my Moms family it works great for, just not us. :: Its probably why my TOM is so screwed up on LC! ROGER I posted those things as ALERTS of nice things I had found for you all to see and MULL over. So we could have something to talk about and discuss NOT ONCE did I ever say I had bought those things NOR ate them. I had cheated with HEAVY cream only. I few days ago I had a few ZCarb chocolate bars. I had already at that point figured that Low Carb wasnt for me as I had gotten on the scale and it said 202 at that point and I thought it was dehydration that was causing me to hold on to water or something So I rehydrated myself and still I didnt lose. So on the 15th I ate a few (4) ZCarb bars then 2 days ago I weigh myself and Im 205! I guess LC just doesnt work for ME (or my mom or her sister) Im not gonna allow YOU or anyone else to beat me up FOR DOING ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG!

I have a very large and old chocolate candy manufacturer miles from me near Philly (NOT Hersheys!), they have a glorious line of Sugarfree chocolates (including easter eggs etc) and they have "Hurt Candy", candy that was second best or wasnt up to cosmetic quality. I regularly get a 6 pound box for 10 bucks and the second box free (ALL SUGARFREE) I have 6 huge boxes in my kitchen that Im always eating and I NEVER get gas or cramps anymore! Its like beans or garlic, your body has to build up a tolerance!

Or, maybe you do need to move back to low fat or WW. However, since you've spent time working on this and have some idea of what to eat, it may prove worth your while to just start tracking calories as well as carbs for a period of time.

But, it only works if you use a graph so you can visualize the data. Your brain is an excellent machine when it comes to analyzing visual data.

You say you ate no goodies, but that you also had 4 ZCarb bars one on the 15th? Maybe you think when other people here say "goodies" or "junk food" they only mean high-carb stuff. They're also talking about "low-carb" junk food, Preesi, maybe that's where the confusion is.

I ate what I posted here: ------------------------------------------------------------------ Breakfast: 6 halves of Deviled Eggs or 3 eggs scrambled with 3-4 slices of bacon Lunch: 7 ounces Deli Turkey and a slice of Muenster on Lettuce w/ Mayo Dinner: a salad with 1 sliced Chicken breast or 2 Porkchops with a lil salsa and a salad Dessert: a cup of steamed brocolli or asparagus with butter! Snack: A Lil Cheese
Thats IT! Nothing else! I really do not understand WHY you do not believe that I havent eaten any fake food as I NEVER LIE! Thats VERY disturbing to me. I planned for the Zcarb bars cause I knew they were the LEAST offensive of all the LC candy out there. I was Menstruating TOO, and as has been recommended to me on this very board "Dont worry about dieting when your TOM is here, EAT some chocolate for the potassium/magnesium and just take care of yourself!

Sheena, Thats what I have been eating for most of the time Ive been on Atkins! Im a boring eater alot of the time, I get on kicks and cant get out of them. For an entire year in 1991 I ate a bag of blue corn tortilla chips and a jar of salsa for dinner! I truly ate JUST as I posted for most of the time on LC! What you guys are not calculating is the fact that YEARS of abusive eating (OR NOT EATING AT ALL) severely f.cked up my metabolism. I still have a lil problem eating lunch or breakfast as I never did so for YEARS! I JUST started eating breakfast and lunch about a year ago. Ive probably been in starvation mode for years! and slowed down!

Can you try this:
1. Eat low carb within reason (not induction level). 2. Eat no junk food whatsoever 3. Exercise 1-2 hours every day (even walking will do). You do have time for it... 4. For your carbs, eat only low calorie vegetables. 5. Limit calories to 80% of your weight maintenance level
I guarantee you that it will work.

My suggestions to Preesi are simple common sense stuff. Stop pleasuring your mouth with commercial junk, live to be healthy, etc. No esoterics.

DJ Delorie - 23 Jan 2004 18:48 GMT > 5. Limit calories to 80% of your weight maintenance level Note: you can calculate your actual maintenance level by taking the average number of pounds you gained per week, multiplying by 500, and subtracting that from your daily calorie level.
500 cals/day = 1 lb/week.

Cubit - 23 Jan 2004 17:07 GMT I'll miss your input Preesi.
As one who has progressed well on Low carb, I want to believe you did something wrong in the process.
Did you drink lots of water each day? Did your Ketostix confirm some Ketosis?
Both here and on various Yahoo email groups I have heard of many foods that can stall some folks. They include products sold as Low Carb, especialy the "bars." For some, artificial sweeteners are suspected of causing stalls. I can use Splenda and aspartame with impunity, but Ace K seems to be assiciated with slowing of weight loss. Everybody is a bit different.
I think you are the first I have read that gained weight while claiming to have complied with the diet.
Oh well.
Bye

Preesi if you want to quit that's your business but don't blame low carb for your failure. You didn't give it 3 months. By your own posts just before Christmas you were drinking a pint or more of heavy cream a day. That in itself is over 1650 calories! Add that to the calories from other stuff you ate and it's not really surprising that you gained weight is it? You've been reading this newsgroup for long enough to know that no matter how few carbs you eat if you eat too many calories you won't lose.
jamie - 24 Jan 2004 17:35 GMT > Evidently Low Carb does not work for me or my Mother or her Sister. > Combined, we gained about 45 pounds. Fitday is well known for grossly overestimating calories burned by daily activity. Not knowing exactly what you were eating and in what amounts, it's difficult to judge how you were following it "to a T". You constantly post links to assorted Frankenfoods, many of which don't seem to be terribly lowcarb. If you were eating all that stuff, that may be much of the problem.
