I have been searching for some candies that are  low carb........while I
have found many sugarless ones, they are still packed with carbs.  Can
someone tell me of a brand that I can have?  I am in Orangeville, Ontario
Canada.
thanks.

The carbs in those sugar free candies come from sugar alcohols, which may
or may not affect blood sugar.  They also may or may not give you the runs.
Specifically what kind of candy are you looking for?  I've seen recipes on
here for home-made chocolate treats made with Splenda.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

they gave me the runs alright!!  2 days worth.....I just have an insatiable
sweet tooth so I was looking for something to supplement the 'real' thing.

You just need to 'suck it up' and stay away from them.  Break their hold on
you and become mentally stronger for it.  I am a SERIOUS chocoholic, I know
what your talking about when you say you have a sweet tooth.  Every time you
get a craving, grab ahold of the fat on your stomach/thighs/butt/etc and
think about what giving in to that sweet tooth has gotten you.

There's no reason why you should deny yourself chocolate.  You can
either get one of those 70% or 80% or even 99% chocolate bars every once
in a while, or do like I do and make your own.

JIM'S CHOCOLATE BAR

3 squares unsweetened bakers chocolate
6 or more pkgs sweetener (I use sugar twin)

Cut up or almost shred with a sharp knife, two of the chocolate squares
and place in microwaveable bowl.  Cut up (or shred, again) the third
square and set aside.  Microwave the chocolate for 15 seconds and then
stir.  Do this until the chocolate has almost completely melted, so that
there are only one or two small lumps left.  Mix around until all the
lumps are gone.  Add in the cut-up third square and mix until it has
melted as much as it will.  If it's too lumpy you can microwave it for a
few seconds, but it's ok if it's a bit lumpy at this point.  Add in your
sweetener.  I find 6 pkgs makes for a bittwersweet chocolate.  If you
like it a bit sweeter, add another 2 pkgs or so.   Mix and pour into
molds.  I use an old plastic holder from a Lindt 99% chocolate bar (it
makes a nice design on the chocolate.)  Place in freezer and let it set
for about a half hour.  Remove from mold and wrap in aluminum foil.

NOTE: There is a method to my madness.  Why not just melt all the
chocolate at once, you ask?  Well, with this method, you will "temper"
the chocolate, meaning it will be stable at room temperature (among
other things.)  If you don't temper it, you will most likely have to
keep your chocolate refrigerated, and it may come out tasting dry.

Enjoy!
