I started on the Atkins Monday, January 5.  Up until this past Thursday, I
had lost 14 lbs.  I even had my TOM and I still lost weight!  A couple of
days 3 lbs. each!  Then Friday, I stepped on the scale Friday and I had put
on 1.5 lbs.   I did have some naked mild hot wings from Hooters and 2
buffalo shrimp. But Friday I got back on course and I had a lo-carb double
whopper (just cheese and mayo) for lunch, 1 serving of Atkins Endulge Butter
Pecan ice cream (I've been eating this almost everyday since I started on
the Atkins and still was losing).  For supper, I had a chopped sirloin steak
and green beans.  I have not been drinking alot of water through all this
like I am supposed to be.  But I had lost 14 lbs. in less than 2 weeks
without it so I thought I was ok.  I know I did not go by the book for
induction (low carb ice cream) but I didn't the last time I was on Atkins
(pre-baby) and I had lost 48 lbs. in 4 mos. and kept it off until I got
pregnant.

Ok, enough rattling.  Does anyone have any input?  I stepped on the scale
this morning and I'm .5 lb heavier again today.  I know it doesn't sound
like much and I know water weight varies.  But I'm scared now that I'm doing
something to ruin this and end up putting back on the 12 lbs. I've just
lost.  Please help.  Thanks!

Your body changes as you age. If doing atkins, follow the book for
induction. If you cheat, you are only cheating yourself. Good luck!

It sounds to me as if your body is having a 'recovery period' after
losing so much so quickly.   Back in June I lost 20lbs in 2 weeks on
Induction, then stalled for three solid weeks.  Most of that initial
weight loss is water and the body recovers that water slowly.  It
doesn't mean that under that you're not losing fat, you will be, but
slowly.

I suggest you stick to the plan without cheating and without the low
carb frankenfoods, and only weigh once a week.  Do that for at least a
month before worrying that the diet isn't working.

You're right. Water weight varies and that's what this is unless you're
eating large amounts of calories. Worrying about daily fluctuations can
really wear you down so if you're going to get stressed out over 1/2 pound
variances then don't weigh yourself every day. Or if you must, make sure you
weigh in the morning before eating or drinking anything then take the
average for the week as your official weight.
If you see a trend of weight gain over a few weeks THEN you can start to
look for possible problems.

This kind of discouragement is why it's recommended that you weigh only once a
week.
Your weight fluctuates several pounds in a single day. You're not doing
anything wrong (modifying the induction period isn't "wrong" - just chancy) but
you are obsessing over the scale.
Weigh once a week and keep up the GOOD work you're doing so far!!

I need to check my weight daily.  If it is down, I liberalize my eating just
a bit.  If it goes up, I become an anti-carb Nazi.

It seems to work.

Atkins can be very diuretic(sp?) so you need to increase water intake
to avoid dehydration. I noticed being much thirstier.

If you are going to weigh your self every day make sure YOU aren't
causing the weight variations.

Scales should never be operated on a carpet, hard floor only. Weigh
yourself each morning after your first trip to the bathroom (for most
people this is the first stop after opening their eyes). DO not drink
anything until you weigh yourself. If you wear the same outfit to bed
each night they wont matter by day-to-day comparison, but wearing
little can help if you wear heavy clothes. Use that as your tracking
weight. We don't normally think of this, but, remember that whether
you have a bowel movement will change your weight. If you are going
through constipation (common on Atkins) your weight will reflect it.

Know that over the course of the day you will add 1-3 lbs of food and
up to 5 pounds of water into your body. SO weighing yourself during
the day will vary depending upon what you ate and when you make water
or have a bowel movement.

You are probably driving yourself crazy by inaccurate weight
measurements and not acounting for variance.

If you consistently see weight gaining (a week say) you should be
looking for what in your diet changed. If you keep a journal this
helps.

What everyone else said plus -- I seem to always jump up at least a
pound after eating hot wings.  It could be the salt level in the sauces.
