Hi all. I think I am going to consider using a mirror instead of a scale
when I hit 185. I do use a mirror to try and figure out what I need to
weigh, but I may forget the scale all together. I am 189 right now, but I
may need to lose more fat. The reason I think I am going to get away from
the scale is because I am lifting hard and I don't know what I should weigh.
Wondering if anyone else isn't looking at numbers as much as looks? I guess
I am looking for someone to tell me it is ok? I don't know? It just seems
like it isn't the norm.
Any comments would be great.
Curt

I use the mirror as a guide much more than the scale.

Curt,
I have much the same situation with much the same intent, I really don't
know what I should weigh, or even can weigh, but I am letting my appearance,
and how I feel, dictate.
My original target was to get to 195 but, given how I still look in the
mirror, I moved that down to 185 because I can see that at 195 I will still
have more gut than I want...purely a how do I look rather than what do I
weigh decision. My current BMI is 29.1 and I don't see how I can ever get
down to the "ideal" of under 25...my body just isn't built that way, never
has been.
Good job on your weight loss BTW.

Thanks JJ,
We are almost the same weight to. Nice work on how far you came, wow. That
is great. I don't know what my BMI is right now. I think it is around 20,
but I plan on getting it tested in a month or two.
Nice to see someone doing this the same.

Curt,
Thank you for the kind words.
BMI is a simple calculation. You can find a BMI calculator (and the
formula) at:
http://www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/dnpa/bmi/calc-bmi.htm
I just checked...for you 6'2" @ 189 pounds is a BMI of 24.3. (Nicely normal
:)
I'm 5'10" so I have a ways to go to get to that kind of number...but frankly
I don't expect to get there. Believe it or not, under all this flab, I
still carry quite a bit of muscle which keeps me off the chart so far as
normal goes. Ultimately, BMI is just a measure that might not mean much,
just a way of keeping score for me.
Keep up the good work.

yeah, I can't go by BMI. I thought that was body fat %, which I use Jackson
& Pollack method. I can't go by BMI because I lift weights and carry too
much muscle. I know people with washboards and would be off the charts.
But it can work for some people if they are normal builds. Last I checked I
was around 20, but I may be less now that I have been lifting so much. I
tend to gain muscle in the first two months pretty fast.
Thanks for the info.

I'm the same way. I got to my goal by relying on how I looked, felt and
measured. I don't own a scale and only get weighed at the doctor's office.
I'm actually below my "ideal" weight, but it suits my frame size. Now I'm
just maintaining.

Wow, that is cool, no scale! Nice work. I like the idea of no scale at
this point.
