If you're exercizing, it can be because muscle is tighter and heavier
than fat.

OTOH, you've lost 20 lbs in a little over 3 months, which is a very
respectable weight loss.  You have to expect the loss to slow down after a
while, since it does for most people.  Congrats on your progress!

If you are not exercising, the loss of inches may be  because low carb
flushes glycogen and the associated water molecules out of your muscles.  If
you carb up and the inches come right back, you'll know whether or not this
is true.

If you have started an exercise program and are very active, you might be
building some muscle--a few pounds worth, but I tend to think that some of
the people who stress inches over pounds lost are avoiding facing the fact
that they need to cut down further on their food intake to lose actual
weight.

In my own case, when I have lost significant pounds I have sometimes NOT
seen any change in inches, which is probably because the weight is coming
off of the invisible "visceral" fat that surrounds the heart and other
organs and is a marker for heart disease risk.

Jenny,

You are always saying such useful things.  (That was not meant to sound
sarcastic ;)

I myself have had success so far sticking to this WOE and I was a bit
concerned about losing the pounds and not seeing the inches decrease.  My
clothes are just now starting to 'loosen'.  So it is nice to think that the
fat is coming off of somewhere that is just as important as the visible
(measureable) places.

Good advice, but I don't know if I would say that he put "pounds of muscle"
on in just a scant few months.

Steven,

I put on a couple pounds of muscle in a few months just doing near-daily
treadmill because I started out  from completely sedentary.  It's when
you've already got something going that it gets harder to add muscle.

HEY this is good to hear. this has realy been bugging me.

I have lost over 60 pounds so far and have seen almost NO change in my
measurements. in fact my one thigh is 1 inch larger than before (that may
just be a fluctuation not sure)

I was begging to wonder where the hell did the 60 pounds come from :-)

well ok after the first 20 I did lose 2 inches on the waist and 1 inch off
the chest (just checked my records) but since thos measurements nothing has
changed.

I care more about pounds than inches right now but once I reach 100 pounds
lost inches are going to start mattering to me. I imagine something wrong if
I lose 100 pounds and do not SEE a physical difference somewhere.

people say they can see a difference but it is invisible to me so far.

going to have to shoot more pictures and compare them.

I not trying to be a cynic here, but....  you lost 11 inches from your waist
and only 20 lbs.  Unless you are exercising like a demon - how did you lose
11 INCHES from your waist????  It just seem feasible!

I know it sounds crazy but i have
i have noted it since two weeks after i stated low carbing
the first two weeks i really didnt lose anything cuz i was not following the rules right and i really did some reserch
and understood how it works and to measure my body
it's a good thing i did because i would have been discouage
cuz the scale just won't move or it goes up 1 or 2 lbs period weight
but the mirror does show alot and my clothes fit way loose
the only thing is i wish i would have taken pictures
