The G.I. Diet?

Anyone here tried the "G.I. Diet" (glycemic index) by Rick Gallop?
I've done Atkins a few times and lost weight quickly and easily but never
manage to stay on it and when I go back to high carb I really pack on the
LB's in a hurry.  Before Christmas I lost 23 lbs on the Atkins in 2 months.
Since I went off, I've gained 20 lbs back in a month.
I also get very little support from friends and family when on Atkins as
they think it is very unhealthy.  My sister in law is a nutritionist and she
is really against the low carb / high fat diets.
Anyway, I was looking into this G.I. diet and it seems to be a little more
balanced and healthy.  Anyone have any experience or comments about the G.I.
diet here?

Here's a link if you don't know what I'm referring to.

Thanks for any info you can pass along.

Here's a link to last week(?)'s Newseek article "Going Beyond Atkins" which
mentions glycemic index (glycemic load):

Two of my uncles have been doing a modified version of the GI Diet.  The
last I heard (a month ago) one of them had gone down from 502 lbs (IIRC), to
370-something in just a few months.  The other has lost about 70 lbs. and is
down to 250.

It works for them, Atkins works for me.

I think that the G.I. diet means eating only MREs (military meals
ready to eat). And maybe hauling 200 lbs crates of ammo all day long
also. I heard that it works.

I've been following the G.I. Diet for the last three weeks and so far
I have lost 9lbs. It was suggested to me by a doctor as I have a
rather unusual family history. I have diabetic siblings and as a
result was brought up on what was essentially a low carb, low sugar,
low GI diet. I only put on weight when i left home to go to
university, no matter what i ate i put on weight. I guess my body just
couldn't cope with anything that didn't follow the diabetic way of
eating.
In the last 5 years I've tried slimming world, weight watchers, atkins
etc and this way of eating just feels right for me. It's certainly a
healthy plan and i don't feel hungry at all (I've re-discovered
porridge!).
It's early days yet and I have a long way to go but i do feel a
certain level of confidence about this diet. My recomendation would be
to try it, it may suit you.

Good luck,
Scy

Thanks, Scy.
I think I'm going to give this a shot.  Do you know of a newsgroup or
website where I can go for more info?

I'm afraid haven't found much useful information on the net yet, most
people don't seem to have heard of this diet. I ended up buying the
book and taking it from there. You can also go to the website
www.gidiet.com and ask Rick Gallop any questions via email. I have and
he replied very quickly.

Hope that helps.

Why do you "go on" and "go off" it? Why are you looking at it in these
terms? That is the main problem here. It is a way of life, not a diet
that you go on and off it. If the atkins wol is not to your liking,
try The Zone wol.

When I first went low-carb, I couldn't believe how much better I felt
and came to the conclusion very quickly that it would be difficult for
me to go back to a high-carb diet. Four years later I feel the same
way.
