Awesome, I got that new job!  I'll be working as a counsellor for an
afterschool program run by the YMCA at a nearby elementary school.  I get a
free Y membership too!  My Curves membership is up for renewal in April,
and I'm leaning towards not renewing.  It will save me money, of course,
but I also feel like I've sort of outgrown Curves.  I can still get a great
workout there, but one of the things that appealed to me about it when I
started was the "no thinking required" aspect, because I was completely
ignorant about exercise.  I've learned a lot since then though, and the
most important thing I learned was the proper intensity at which to work
out.  Previous attempts to exercise on my own were disastrous because I
pushed myself too hard and got dizzy and nauseous and felt like I was going
to die.  Now that I know what it _should_ feel like, I'm able to get my
heartrate up, break a sweat, feel my muscles burn, and get that "runner's
high" instead of feeling sick.

Anyway, I can't decide if I'm more excited about swimming, or the classes
they offer.  I love to swim and haven't done it in years, and I also love
learning new things, so I want to try every class they have.

Congrats!  I was wondering how that went for you.

Congratulations Luna! My son loved going to the Y's after school program when
he was in kindergarten. You seem to have the right personality for a job like
this. I'm sure you'll have a ton of fun on this job and the free membership is
a great perk!

Thanks! I think I'll like it.  I've already been down there twice, once for
the interview, the second time for orientation, and the kids seem to like
me.  When I was filling out paperwork, a group of kids were sharing the
table and making sculptures out of toothpicks and balls of clay.  A little
boy sitting across from me yelled down to the end of the table "Hey, gimme
some toothpicks!" and without even thinking about it, I looked up and said
"Gimme some toothpicks what?"  And he said "Oh, gimme some toothpicks
please!"  It was about 5 minutes later that I actually realized I'd done
that, and I was all "Ok, where the heck did THAT come from?"

Not only is it free, it is convenient. You can go to work early or stay
after to work out without having to drive somewhere else. Sometimes on the
way to work out I can get...sidetracked. This way you will have no excuse.
Have fun on your new job and exercise journey!

Actually, the after school program is not at the Y, it's run by the Y but
it's physically at an elementary school.  Still, it's not very far to drive.

My sister has worked for the YMCA for 10 years, and has free membership for
herself and her family. That is a nice perk to have, and my sister loves
swimming, her favorite exercise.
