Hello all,
I've done this before, lost 25 lbs. on LC, then gained it back. I went back
to LC after Thanksgiving adn went from 195 to 170, my goal. But now here,
not sure if I set it right. I'm 5'11" and still have a little too much
jiggly in the middle. I'm not losing much more, but not exercising either. I
am not counting calories, but a typical day is 1 or 2 eggs, usually with
half to one slice of american cheese, a 1/3 lb. burger with cheese, and a
reasonable helping of meat with small salad for dinner. I snack on nuts, but
little else. I have always been a real carb addict. So I'm afraid to add too
much. I'll have a cheat once every other week or more wher I throw myself
out of ketosis then get back into it.
Can one stay on LC with a once a day treat of 40g or less (a scoop of Ben &
Jerry for example)?

1 egg, a slice of cheese, and a burger? How are you not hungry?

That doesn't sound like much food or fat. Aren't you hungry?
And a carb addict eating a scoop of Ben & Jerrys a day would be like an
alcoholic only having one drink a day. It would make it too easy to slip.

Start doing cardio 2X per week (build up over time to high intensity) and
working out with weights 3x per week (full body workouts). That will force
your sustainable carb level upward. If you're not doing any exercise and
start eating a scoop of B&H everyday you'll gain weight (and may still if
you don't learn how to train hard). Also, that sugar will bring on
additional sugar cravings that will send you down a road you don't need to
be on. At the very least, try the SF ice cream products and only have B&J
once a month or so.
Since you're the one saying you're "jiggly" that tells me that YOU don't
think your initial goal is enough. Hence, you must decide what to do about
it (hint: start exercising as outlined above)

Thanks Roger. I know this is what I must do! Better get the laundry off the
treadmill.

I'm not hungry. The egg (sometimes 2) with cheese. holds me to lunch, then a
cheeseburger (or sometimes a chef salad) for lunch, and a portion of meat
for dinner. I do have some nuts in between if I feel like it, but no I am
usually not hungry. Not enough food? Maybe because I am not active enough.
I can tell you I ate more than enough before Thanksgiving!

I am also 5'11" and 174 lbs as of today. Same jiggly in the middle.

I think that it is hard to achieve good physique by dieting alone, at
least for me. So, lots of exercise for me. Pushups, pullups, crunches,
weighted situps (70 lbs added weight), etc.

When you do start taking in more carbs, you should add them gradually
and start with the low glycemic index ones. Don't go straight to ice
cream. Then you won't get the sugar spikes, and the cravings, but you
will be adding in vitamins and fiber.
I also agree with the other posters who said that you should increase
your activity level so that you can build more muscle and increase your
metabolism.

I don't know. Can you? Remember, LC is NOT a 'one size fits all'
plan. There are some people who can do just fine on a relaxed
program, some who have to be stringent. Some who can lose using all
kinds of low-ish-carb-replacements for high carb pitfalls, some who
have to eschew even the replacements.
The ONLY, absolute ONLY way to find out whether or not you can work in
your 40g daily treat is to try it out. See if it sets you up for
cravings that you can't handle. See if you start to regain those
hard-lost pounds.
If you can get away with it, then more power to you. If it turns out
to be a problem, then you'll have to rethink your strategy. Only you
can tell what is right for your situation. Your body, your science
experiment.
