Hello,
If someone follows the high protein/low carb diet religiously, then
won't they have a problem with a lack of energy even if he or she eats
the right carbs?
Eating a lot of protein/fat doesn't seem logical. Do people who go on
these low carb diets complain of a lack of energy?
Thanks,

I wouldn't know about a high-protein diet, since I'm on Atkins. Maybe somebody
from some kind of high-protein plan will chime in.

I haven't had this much energy since I was a kid. "carbs are essential for
energy" is ignorant crap. The only thing carbs gave me were mid-afternoon
slumps that made me feel comatose, and 24/7 munchies. I'll eat high-fat,
low-carb for life.

This is another bubble-gum science conclusion. Calories(energy) come
from carbs, fat, protein & alcohol in different amounts. Fat actually
provides the highest calories per gram, HIGHER than carbs! The body
uses glucose (carbs), ketones(fat) and whatever alcohol breaks down
into for energy. Most of us have probably experienced the afternoon
sleepies caused by lunch. That hasn't occurred yet on Atkins.
I managed to be shoveling snow for a few hours today. Did our walks,
the neighbor's and their driveway. Not something I usually could do
without petering out.
While the first few days of induction were sluggish, normal energy
levels came back. Considering I got lots done in my second week, I'd
be willing to say my energy level was a little higher than usual.

I always thought that it was *protein* that provided energy, not carbs???
Or maybe I've been watching too many commercials for dogfood :)
In any event, I suppose Martin's question is not germane vis-a-vis my own
diet -- in doing Atkins, I find that in addition to eating fewer carbs,
I'm eating more vegetables and actually *less* meat overall.

all food provides energy. that's what a calorie is, the measure of energy
the food produces.

When I consistently eat low-carb I have more energy, sleep better
and I am able to focus/think better. However, I have found that
on LC I don't have as much stamina for extended physical exersion.
For example, I used to ride my bike at a nearby lake from the access
road to the dam, about 6mi one way. Before I was LC'ing I could
make it to the dam and back with out straining, hitting the wall, pooping
out, etc. On LC I started to poop out at around mi 5 on the way in.
At first I thought it was illness or something else but after about two
months of testing I found that if I at some carbs a few hours before my
ride I was okay. This was when I first started LC about 4-5yrs ago
and I don't know if it is still true because I don't ride any more.

As a famous novelist-philosopher used to say "check your premises"

can't you just feel the support in this "support" group? what a way to
educate people.

You want education? It's standard practice to capitalize the first word of a
sentence.
Do you feel smarter now?
Fuckwit.

You might want to pay attention to who posts what. The person you
quoted shows a pattern of obnoxious and largely worthless posts. I
killfile'd him a week after I started reading the group.

I killfiled him months ago. Of course, when someone insists on quoting
him, I still get to read his garbage. :/

Obnoxious, yes. Worthless, no. JC knows his sh.t if you're willing
to ask the right questions and put up with him being an a.shole.

Before filtering him out I read his posts in all the threads I had
been interested in. Nothing he said was particularly earth-shattering
and there are others who provided the same or better information
without having to put up with the personality of an a.s. It is
wonderful to have choices. And in the internet we have many. He is one
of those kind that people can do without.

I've never had a lack of energy on Atkins. I felt headachy for the first 3
days of induction, but after that I felt better than I had every felt
before.
