I'm having problems getting Ketosis going and I'm not sure why. I've been
at 6 to 10 carbs a day and can barely change the color on a test strip, many
times I can't even tell if it changes but once it did pretty well. I've
lost 6 pounds, from 225, in the 7 days I've been on it which is great but
since I can't seem to get into ketosis I'm getting frustrated and worried
I'm doing something wrong so I'll have to start over. I've got a question I
haven't seen answered anywhere online or in a book. Mid afternoon I tend to
have a 1 gram shake and a 2 gram Atkins bar. Since those 3 carbs are not on
the "list" could they be hindering induction? Does the type of carb matter
or is it just being under 20 per day no matter what that counts. Should I
just go down to 0 carbs for a few days to kickstart this?
Thanks,
John

I would drop the shakes and the bars for now, but I did lose 35 pounds
without ever once turning a stick pink, so if you're losing I wouldn't
worry about the color of the sticks, but I would worry about the LC
"junkfood" during induction. JMO

Don't pay too much attention to the strips. As long as you're doing what
you're supposed to be doing and NOT doing what you're NOT suppossed to be
doing, you'll be fine.

Looks like you're seeing results. Stay on the straight and narrow and if
you have any questions about if you can eat something, and can't find the
answer in the book or on the website... don't eat it.

Let me first preface this by saying that I'm a 'purist'.
I stay away from all of the shakes, bars, cereals, etc. *I* think its all
crap. Some people can eat them and be fine, some can't. Either way, you
shouldn't be eating them on induction. Go to the atkins.com site and follow
the rules for induction. If it isn't on the approved list, you can't eat it
on induction. If you do eat it, you're not on induction; You're on your own
style of low-carb. Nothing wrong with that. Many people are on modified
versions of the various Low-Carb diets.
You're seeing results. Make sure you're eating enough veggies and taking
enough vitamins to be getting your needed vitamins and minerals.
Enjoy.

I lost 70 pounds and wouldn't know what a ketosis strip looked like
if I stumbled on one. Induction [for me] is largely about appetite
suppression, and losing weight because I am satisfied on much less
food.
I'll recommend ditching the bars and shakes. Net carbs or no, give
your taste buds a chance to adapt to clean food for a couple of weeks.
Then, return to the bars if you can stomach the flavor.
Stick to the recommended list of induction foods. It does matter
where the carbs come from when you're training your body to adapt
and to "de-tox" from the addiction to foods that have hindered
weight loss and healthy eating.

no, you should drop all junk food bars and shakes. Atkins nutritionals
is lying about their carb content to make a little bit of money for
the greedy heirs of deceased Dr. Atkins.
for induction, eat only approved, normal foods, not fake candy
bars. that's what the book says.

Thanks everybody for the answers. I figured the bar and shake wasn't
"legal" but they sure tasted good and being only 3 g felt they might not
hurt. No more. Again I appreciate the feedback.
