I appreciate all the advice and ideas I've received from everyone. My scales
are very consistent. My husband has weighed on them and gone to the doctor
and his weight is exactly the same. I'm comfortable that the problem is not
with my scales.

Yesterday evening when I got home from work and took off my shoes, my feet
were extremely swollen. (Hard to tell with winter shoes and big socks on.)
So I kept my legs elevated for the evening.

This morning, after all bodily functions and a shower, I had lost 8 of the
10 pounds the scales were up yesterday. I'm going to go with fluid
retention.

My physician calls my water retention "benign." I've had tests, tests and
more tests. I see him on a very regular basis. I have diuretics and take
them on an as-needed basis. Low dose, nothing to write home about. Since
I've experienced these wild fluctuations, I'll start taking them for a few
days. Watch my salt intake. Drink water. Walk.

Good for you.

I have a lot of water retention and it used to give me chronic cramp in my
lower legs each night as it drained.

Since I've been walking more regularly I rarely get the cramp.

I too have had water retention for several years, actually it was one
of the symptoms I had when becoming diagnosed with Fibromyalgia.  I
have tried water pills, they don't help. Have even tryed them ugly
stockings. Nothing. The leg swelling also causes leg cramps for me at
night.

Since starting Atkins two weeks ago. I noticed the swelling going down
in the legs. Its something else. My lower legs almost look normal, I
got more feeling in them, they are not so tingly. I am happy about
that. Happy too, you figured out something about yours.
