I'm starting this G.I. diet (glycemic index by Rick Gallop) and wondering if
anyone here can answer a question for me. I haven't quite figured out how
to tell if something has a high or low glycemic value. Is there a way to
figure it out from the nutrition label? So far I'm just going by the book
for what he says is green, yellow or red light. Somethings aren't listed
like V8 juice. How can I figure it out?

This site might supplement the book you have. It doesn't have everything
either but I was surprised to see it does list V8.

I don't know anything about figuring GI from label info but if it's possible
to do then someone on this newsgroup will know.

Do you have the book The New Glucose Revolution? That has a pretty
comprehensive listing of glycemic values and gives a good background
on the science.
The highest items on the glycemic index are sugar and anything that
breaks down into sugar, i.e., starches (potatoes, rice, white flour).
If the carbs in V8 are mostly fiber, it would be lower on the index.
I've found that eating according to GI, even when not on Atkins, works
pretty well. Rebeq
