Reality Check - 14 Feb 2004 19:00 GMT
Hi everyone,

I remember posting here the first time complaining about my metabolism.
(Thanks for listening and giving me advice!)  I've been keeping at it and
been losing a steady 1 lb/week of fat.  Total loss for me is 17lbs and 7-9
more to go.  Figures may not be big but to me they are.  I'm a little
person.  Now I'm 124 lbs, 5'2".

Here are the pics...

Gonna keep with a sorta cyclical keto diet until I lose 7 more pounds and
then go on the UD2 and hopefully gain lots more muscles.  Can't wait!

Good job Check!  I have slow metabolism too.  Probably from all those
starvation diets.  I am small also.  5'4'' and I've only lost 6 pounds now
in a about 5 weeks.  Only 2 pounds lost during induction.  I only have 4
more to go and it's tough when you get down to the last little bit.  Then
the next challenge is to tighten up those muscles!  Keep going.  WE CAN DO
IT!

Yup.  Lots of us in the same boat.  I am 5'1".  I have lost 27
pounds since August, but I have deliberately slowed down and
practically stopped losing weight since December because I am
hoping my skin will get into a bit better shape.  (I am 54.)  I am
going to do this as slowly as possible now....

And yes, nice job!

Hi Jean.
Yes, I think taking it nice and easy is the best way.
I started doing the Tamilee DVD, "I want that body" which incorporates "I
want those arms", I wants those ABS" and "I want those buns".  I LOVE IT!  I
can hardly get through phase 1 though.  It takes time but Rome wasn't built
in a day! :-)

Yup.  I need to exercise more and step up my activity level in
general.  I want to lose any additional weight (5 to 10 pounds, I
think) VERY slowly.  This Rome took a while to build, and it is
only reasonable for it to take a while to disappear.  <g>

Hey there dot.  6 pounds in 5 weeks sounds about right!  It was very
frustrating in the beginning actually.  I couldn't get down below 130
which was higher than my "normal non-dieting weight" from a couple of
years ago.  Getting older is not fun.  Well I'm in my last little bits
of pounds but I'm not anywhere near as worried.  I'm excited to start
"bulking" up!  I'm becoming a masochist! Oh it's sweet pain ;-)

How heavy are you now if you don't mind me asking?

I don't mind you asking at all!  In fact you can ask me anything you want if
it will be of any help to you.  I am 55, 5'4"  and started LCing 1-9-04 at
130 lbs.  I am very small boned and that was way too much weight for me.  I
weighed 117/118 up until I was 50 and then started putting the pounds on due
to a life style change.  I only lost 2 pounds at the beginning of  induction
and stayed there the entire first two weeks.  Disappointing!  I then
realized that calories did indeed matter and I started watching both
calories AND carbs and entering everything I ate into FitDay software and
that helped a lot.  I am now at 124 lbs. and want to lose 4 more.  I don't
really need to get back down to 117.  120 is fine for my age now.  I do
however want to get my muscle tone back though.  It's been slow but as
others have said, it the best way.  I want to eat in a healthier way too.  I
was eating to many carbs I now realize.  One of my favorite meals was a cold
bowl of cereal with non-fat milk and a banana!  WHOA!  Sometimes I would
have that for breakfast AND dinner!  I went through a horrible first week of
induction feeling every symptom reported and then some.  But I feel GREAT
now.  Good luck to you.  You look fabulous!

Are you weight training while dieting?  I must admit, weight training
and LC aren't the greatest of combination especially when my whole
body (muscle + liver) is fully depleted of carbs.

I still eat carbs on weekends, which explains why my weight-loss has
been fairly slow.  I just couldn't stop eating carbs altogether mainly
due to psychological reasons.  I think I've been successful so far
because I haven't been too anal with my diet.  Although I do keep a
food journal which is considered obsessive compulsive behaviour by my
friends. :-)

You must be doing it wrong.

Why?

Because weight training and low carb dieting go great together for many
people, myself included. The variables of set, reps, types of lifts, rest
between sets, and days off between lifting can all be adjusted with the diet
in mind.

Ah yes, I used to weight train while on Atkins, it was okay because I
got to enough... sorry I was talking about when doing a ckd where
feeling nauseous with strong lactic build-up are suppposed to be a
part of it, otherwise you're not fully depleting your body of
glycogen.  Carb refeeds happen on the fourth day.  I'm not doing this
diet right now... too tough!  Still pscyhing myself up for it.

Depletion workouts aren't really all that necessary. You can still drop
bodyfat without killing yourself.

Wow! its incredible to me how a 10 to 20 pounds loss on an already
pretty thin person changes them. You lost the chub under your arm
there. Your belly really went down. I wish I had your boobs!  Great

Thanks Laureen :) I laughed at the boobs comment!

Looking at the before pic actually made me realise how out of shape I
was!  At the time I didn't think I was THAAAAT much bigger than my
normal weight, up until I put before and after pics side by side and
oh my!  Most of the weight I gain always goes to my belly first.  Just
like my late mother.  Since she suffered from diet related diseases, I
have made a vow to myself not to make the same mistake by eating right
and exercising most days of the week.  Exercise is already a big part
of my life and I'm not about to lose it.

I'm so glad that I am able to take pictures of my progress now (love
my dig cam).  These pictures must be my biggest source of motivation.
Another big one would be reading forums and finding out other people's
experiences. Love these forums.

25 thousand out of my own pocket since insurance rarely covers it but
I cant do both. My vain side says "I know I can do the LC thing and

Whoa boob job! My cousin wants one too, and I think she's seriously
contemplating of getting them if she ever gets $5000 to spare.  See
how you go with LCing first.  If anything, it will instill good diet
habits. I know that I automatically eat much, much less carbs now than
I used to before I was introduced to the Atkins diet.  E.g. I have
cheat days, yet I still eat considerably less carbs on those days even
when I allow myself to pig out on anything.  My body just couldn't
hack too much carbs anymore - and I'm glad!

I'll probably use webshots if I ever get around to finding a picture
or taking some. I still can't get to the c-k-d.com site. I have
checked my settings and tried on 3 computers.

browser? Or another internet connection maybe..?  I uploaded them on to

I'm not sure that I would gain any more muscles than 3-4 lbs this year.  I'm
