I was out shopping this morning, and stopped at Rubio's Fish Tacos for
lunch.  They now have a lettuce wrap low carb sandwich!  In all
honesty, I didn't check out the contents so don't know how accurate
they are in calling it low carb (I haven't begun my regimen just yet
so went ahead and indulged in the fish taco, yum :->).  But I think
it's great that some places are filling the public's "demand" for low
carb restaurant food.  Now if only we could get the restaurant
industry to indulge in realistic portion control too.

If you want to encourage them to have a low carb menu, you actually have to
BUY the product or they won't carry it anymore.

Exactly!
I feel we should support those entities that provide low carb products even
if the price is a little higher than you would expect just to keep the trend
going.  If no one buys these products SWOOOSH!  Off they go off the shelves!
Also, demand WILL brings prices down as other get in the market to
capitalize on it.  It's the American way! :-)

I think so too.  The problem arises when the LC product is not
what I/we want.  I have started to write to manufacturers more to
say I am happy to see this product, but why does it contain this
ingredient/whatever.  Or I am happy to see the product, but I
would like to see even few grams of carb.

How about doing realistic portion control by ourselves? Eat half of
food and take half home, that sort of thing.

Oh I quite agree.  But you know, in the US, we're well-known for our
ridiculous portions of food.  When I've eaten in restaurants in other
countries -- France, England, Belgium, Switzerland, New Zealand --
there portions are so much more sensible than ours.

If you haven't already done so, have a read of the book called
"Fatland".  One of the many things he talks about is the USA phenomen
of supersized portions.  He also talks about detrimental "lowfat"
dieting, high fructose corn syrup, and other factors that have made us
such fatsos.  IT's very interesting.

<snip>

I luuuurve the lettuce tacos. They've made a convert of me in the
sense that now I love wrapping everything in lettuce for a sandwich. I
can't believe I ever ate corn tortillas now! I wrap everything in
lettuce these days. I think other folks would do it if they just
tasted how good it is!

I have trouble seeing where the 7g net carbs (whatever...) comes from
that they claim, unless it's the miniscule amount of tomato/onion
salsa, or the cheese, or something in the guacamole... I would like to
see the nutritional info on them.

Nonetheless the lettuce tacos are great... since everything is
separate you have the option of not eating parts of it. Avoiding the
guacamole or the salsa, for instance, if you're unsure of the carb
content.

Anyway, lettuce tacos are pretty much a staple for me. [There's a
Rubio's on campus, where the hubby works.]
