I did not go on induction, just lowered my carbs, dropped junk food
and limited my calories and exercised and lost 47 lbs in 100 days.

Are you at your goal weight now?? and Have you had any trouble maintaining??
Just curious, I see you answer alot of the  different boards and have answered
mine from time to time. I was told to get rid of the junk my husband bought
while trying to be supportive. He was looking for the low carb sweets in case i
had a sweet tooth. I told him what everyone said to throw it out its junk etc.
He hasnt bought me anything since lol. Ive lost 20lbs in 3 weeks starting my
4th week yesterday. Ive been trying to stay on induction so that i can lose
more weight just to get a jump start. I have only fell off the wagon 1 time and
that was valentines night when we went to dinner. And it was so not worth it. I
felt guilty the rest of the night. I also have been excersising as much as i
can. I biked an hour tonight and will walk tomarrow morning. I cant do it every
day because i work 2 jobs but do it as much as i can when i can.  Have a good
night

Iam 6 lbs below my goal weight, as of this morning (223/174/180).

> and Have you had any trouble maintaining??

Well, it definitely takes some effort to maintain, but I do not feel
too bad and deprived. Because I spend 300-40 calories per day
exercising, I can eat a little more, which helps.

You are not way too far from your goal weight either.

Good job so far.

To what level did you drop your carbs and calories?

Of course you can. You don't need to buy the special Atkins food
products or the special Atkins diet squid shakes or the special Atkins
meditation beads.

Just cutting out some of the carbs is bound to help. My advice, which
is worth what you've paid for it, is to read everthing you can, get
informed, and do the right thing for you.

Induction? Isn't that what the Moonies or the Heaven's Gate zombies or
the Scientologists do when they bring you into the "right and proper"
way of thinking?

What does that have to do with the question?  Atkins never suggested
any special products were required for induction.  Did you read the
book?

Actually, Atkins forbade all junk food on induction.

You've missed my point. The Atkins diet is but one way of losing
weight on a low carb diet. There are other diet plans as well.

The point is, you don't have to follow *anybody's* diet plan to reduce
the amount of carbs that you ingest. You can do it on your own.
Depending on your philosophical and religious beliefs, you have free
will.

And you certainly don't have to put your hard-earned money into the
coffers of some multimillion dollar corporation. Just because a
product is emblazoned with The Scarlet Letter doesn't mean that it is
good or right or necessary.

Are you calling squid shakes a junk food?

Induction is the first stage of the Atkins plan. People can and do lose
weight on all sorts of low-carb plans.  The ones that are not Atkins that I
can think of off the top of my head include the South Beach Diet, Protein
Power, Sugar Busters, the Carbohydrate Addicts Diet, the Paleo Diet, and
the Zone Diet. I do my own thing but learn what I can about other plans to
help me make informed decisions.  I've lost 43 pounds since May of 2003
just cutting out things like pasta, bread, rice, corn, potatoes, and junk
food, without limiting other carbs that are in things like non-starchy
veggies (spinach, brocolli, peppers, etc.)  I don't even count my carbs
most of the time, every once in a while I do a spot check and enter things
on Fitday to see how I'm doing, I'm almost always between 30 and 60 grams a
day.  I did not have the dramatic initial loss that most people get on
Atkins induction, but that's ok by me.

I have only 3 flaws.  My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

You do not have to go on Induction but it does help rid you of carb
cravings.

Your call.

1) Generic low carbing works fine for many people.

2) If you don't go through Induction you aren't on Atkins so don't tell
people you're on Atkins.  Tell them you're on a low carb plan of your
own.

3) Dr A spent decades improving the process and the end result is a
sequence of events that is very far from obvious.  Understand that he
put in a lot of time and effort.  What he came up with works better
than anything you can think up on your own.  But what he came up with
is a significant amount of effort.  That's your trade-off: Amount of
sucess versus amount of effort.

4) If making it up yourself doesn't work you can always try Induction.

5) There are no low-carb police that will lock you up for doing it wrong.

Enjoy!
