Ocassionally, since I've been LC, I have had a sour, rotten egg type
burps....I know this sounds strange and I googled this, but couldnt find any
info. Am I not digesting anything and thus, the spoiled egg taste in my
mouth? Digestion seems to be fine, no constipation (not a problem since my
gallblader removal 2 yrs ago). It just seems strange that this has started
since the LC. ANyone else have this? (Ihavent eaten eggs in 3 days so I
knowit's not form them, but it sure tastes like it!
I've been lc since 1/17/03, have lost 12#, but I'm stalled now and have been
for 3 weeks! Any correlation?

No correlation for me. LC has just about eliminated all gastric
problems for me.
I believe that with a little effort you can find and eliminate your
problem. It will mean changing your diet and eating habits and then
paying close attention to the results.
It is not easy to do for someone like you who has been abusing
yourself for so many years, but it need to be done if you want to
eliminate the problem.
Good luck.

I googled around and the only thing I could find was Pediatric sites
noting sour burps in infant as a sign of Gastric reflux, caused by
curdling in the stomach. You may be experiencing something similar.
Others site talk about foul burps as a sign of general indigestion.
Perhaps cut back on dairy products, like cottage cheese, sour cream,
heavy cream. SInce it is from LCing, what are you eating more of than
you did pre-LC?

Actually, I am eating more salads and maybe a bit more meats. The main thing
that LC has changed is the sweets. The only thing I have had with dairy is
the Breyers LC ice cream and ocassionally cheese, no sour cream, cottage
cheese.
When it first happened I thought it odd but didnt give it much thought, but
now I am wondering......I feel fine though with less gastric problems than
before.

My husband used to have this problem very often (it seemed that stress
would bring it on) before lowcarb. It was the first sign of gastric
distress that would soon include cramps and loose bowels that also stank
of sulfer. Acidopholis helped bring him back to normal, once we tried
it, and we've not had a problem since, except the one time he caught a
stomach bug that was going around.

It may be a very mild case of food poisoning that has nothing to do the LC.
Several years ago I gave both my husband and I a much more severe case by
using just a little past prime sour cream in some beef stroganoff. Besides
the gastro-intestinal distress, the other marked symptom was the rotten egg
burping. Ever since I've been a fanatic about checking the expiration dates
on products.

How did you know it was too old? I actually thought sour cream was cream that was left sitting out too long so it "soured" (that is assuming it hadn't been pasteurized or homogenized.) This is how I've made it in the past here in Poland...let it sit out, warm up, and turn sour...
But I've had food poisoning before (from kielbasa) and I know that I also burped that rotten egg stuff. Other than that, the only time that happens to me is if I'm sick and going to vomit.

I've used sour cream a month after its expiration date. If you don't break
the seal it will last even longer. Only time I have had to throw some out
is if I forget about it until it gets moldy, then out it goes.

I can't be 100% sure, but it was the most likely culprit as everything else
was fresh. The sour cream was about a month past the expiration date and
there was only a couple of tablespoons left. It didn't look or smell bad,
but you can't always go by that.

Might want to check to see if your gallbladder is functioning
normally. You may have one or more gallstones. That's not something
that's likely to be fatal, but it can cause the symptoms you describe.
If your gallbladder is infected or blocked, you may need to have it
removed, or take medications for it. See

Why not try a probiotic like Culturelle, or some acidophilus milk. It can't
hurt. (Probably)
