I am running rehearsals for an upcoming show and one of the things I
do is provide munchies for my actors.  Gnereally speaking, I put out
veggies, fruit, hummus and pita.  However, one of them is following
Atkins, so obviously this is not a good assortment for him.  As he is
also cast in the next show I stage manage (and he is an absolute
sweetie), I want to make sure I can put stuff out for him to graze on.
Rehearsin is an arduous process and energy levels need to be kept up.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Pork rinds, nuts (check the carb counts), peanut butter on celery or wasa
(if he's far enough into Atkins), cheeses of almost all types, here's a good

Skip anything marketted as Low-Carb or Sugar free, since while
technicalities let them be marketed as such, they are just as bad as
regular for some people. (Even Diabetics often have to avoid
sugar-free stuff--Atkins is stricter on sugar/starch than what
diabetics eat.) Go with more general, safe, real foods.

Some better choice veggies and a fat-based dip with little/no sugar is
good. Hardboiled eggs, pork rinds, choice nuts, cubed cheeses,
pepperoni, ham and turkey.

specifics that I look to for snacks---

Pork Rinds are carb-free (Rolet's brand are good, nice puffy light
texture-not crack your teeth hard)

greens/lettuces/spinach, radish, Celery, swiss chard, Cauliflower,
Broccoli, mushrooms, peppers(green, jalapeno, chile) are the
lower-sugar veggies. [generally listed from lowest to higher]

Pecans, Macadamia, Walnuts, Hazelnuts are good Nuts

A lot of cheeses are good. CHeddar, feta, blue, fontina, parmesan,
provolone, swiss, plus others.

Most people will eat limited amounts of cold cuts. Pepperoni and
cheddar is a favorite snack. Avoid deli meats that are honey-roast__,
maple__, these flavor variations introduce unwanted sugars.

Cream cheese, mayo, sour cream are okay. For Atkins fat is okay,
sugar/starch isn't. So a fatty dip is good for atkins where a low-fat
dieter would avoid it. Unfortunately commercial dips often add sugars.
Eggs are good(hard boiled, deviled).

have you seen those trays you can buy with turkey, ham, cheese, and veggies
(celery, cauliflower, broccoli, salad dressing)...

those would be wonderful for your friend...

I suggest you not put nuts out for munchies...if he's busy, he might not
realize how many/much he's eating...speaking as a nut fiend, btw...

cheese, summer sausage and/or pepperoni and/or salami, strawberries,
blueberries, raspberries (depending on his stage of the diet) with sour
cream/cream cheese/cinnamon/splenda dip (or none!), celery stuffed with
cream cheese, olives. Crudites with ranch dressing.

Just be sure to put out a bit more - those usually eating the other
stuff will want these things, I know.
