It was great. Some folks seem to have gotten the impression that I was
worried that I wouldn't be able to find lo-carb items on the menu. That was
not what I was confronting.
For me, it was whether or not I would stick to lo-carb eating or go for
eating whatever I wanted. Lo-carb or not.

When I went into the restauarant, the first thing I saw, after Eric and I
said our hello's, was the bread. It was the focaccia that I taught him how
to make. It was my recipe. It was very gratifying to see that he's using it
for the bread in his restaurant. It was always a big hit at Roses and I
worked hours on putting it out every day. When they brought it to the table,
I had to have some. It was wonderful. Full of the flavor of rosemary and
olive oil. Salty on top. Just as I remembered. I also had a Manhattan. We
shared a bottle of Chardonay, had 2 desserts and a couple of stellar glasses
of Cognac. It was great. I have no regrets about having ditched my LC ways
for one night. Today I went right back to eating the things I know are good
for me. I have had no carb hangover. I'm so glad that I listened to Curt and
others that said to enjoy the evening. If this is to truly be a way of life
for me, then there has to be room for this kind of celebration. I believe
that's what those foods are for. Celebration. Where some of us get into
trouble is having them every day. I'll never do that again. But I will, on
occasion, indulge in some foods that are pure celebration.

Sounds like a great evening Bear!  I'm glad you had yourself a good time,
good company and good food.

I did Monica. Eric sent us some great food. It's funny but the best things
were lo-carb. He sent us a plate of house cured fish that was amazing.
Salmon, trout and Hawaiin walu. The walu was so buttery and subtle. I could
have eaten 3 plates of that. Asparagus with proscuitto and shaved parmsan
was great. Oh, and they brought a bowl of a variety of olives and almonds in
olive oil when we sat. I had *Zarzuela*  for a main course. It was really
Ciopinno, which is the SF signature dish, renamed. Lots of super fresh
shrimp (I'm sure he gets them live like we used to at Roses) Crab, Mussels,
fish all in a tomato broth with aromatic veggies. Tony had Qauil that was
grilled under a brick. Next time I go I won't need to have the bread and
some of the other higher carb items, but I'm glad I did this time. It really
confirmed the efficacy of this WOE for me. Having eaten both high carb and
lo carb items side by side, after a month of LC eating, I can see that I'm
really not missing anything.
Not even dessert.

Glad you had such a nice time, Bear.   I also believe that sometimes it is
OK to celebrate.   But strict low carbing the rest of the time:-)

Glad you enjoyed the night.  Sometimes when I have a day like that, I
actually lose a few more pounds after a few days of low carb.  It somehow
seems to kick start me again.  I wouldn't want to make a habit out of it,
but so far so good.

It will be interesting to see how you do after a week back on low-carb and
see if you lost more than when you started before that night and if so, how
much more.

Well I just weighed myself this morning and I'm up 3. I don't think that's a
bid deal. I think you said to expect about that. Isn't that your experience?
I'll watch over the next few days and see what happens.
The best part of this has been the fact that I don't feel as though I've
blown a diet. In the past, if I dieted and went out for a night like that I
would feel so guilty. Not this time.

Yes, when I used to weigh after nights like that I would gain 2-4 pounds
usually.  It is misleading if you drink IMHO.  I seem to retain water if I
drink alcohol, so it usually comes right back off.  I don't weigh myself
after days like that anymore because I already know that the scale will get
me down a bit.  In 3-4 days you will be back or maybe even lower than
before, or at least that has been my experience.  Many times I have a really
good week if I have an off day in there.  Let us know if that happens in
your case.

that's almost certainly just water weight and it will disappear after a few
days of LC eating. Good you have a nice meal.

I love the word you chose for the enjoyment of great food:
 Celebration!

I'm going to adopt that word.   It replace other words such as
Cheating or Off Plan or .....

Thanks
