What do you guys and gals do to combat sore muscles after a workout? I can
hardly lift my arms over my head my triceps are so sore.

Stretching during and after the workout is good.  But soreness is a sign of
progress; rest those muscles for a day then keep up the good work.

I lift again the next day. After a while you won't get sore anymore.

Someone on my forum claimed to have gained 30 lbs in 3 months eating
800-1000 calories/day.

In the FFID universe, 800 cal can magically cause weight gain.

Yeah, I'm going again tomorrow to do a legs, back, and ab workout. The
muscles bothering me now are my triceps. The one benefit is I can hardly
lift my hand ot my mouth. If i'm going to eat it's going to have to be worth
it! Talk about movitvation to eat less.

Do some extra sets of light weight high reps for your triceps. Like
something you would do to warm up.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I do a light set of whatever the offending exercise(s) was/were the
next day.  It helps me, but YMMV.

Take care,
Carmen

Wait a minute.  I thought you were supposed to rest a day in
between to let the muscles heal before you tortured them
again???

You're right, and what I do is a far cry from another workout.  It's
just enough to get the blood flowing to the muscles used the day
before and I find it makes me more comfortable.  It's been referred to
as "hair of the dog on MFW".  <G>

Take care,
Carmen

Ahh, like having a beer after a hangover, back in the old days?

Maybe.  Bicyclists recommend going out the next day and doing a very light
workout.  Supposedly, this helps to flush out lactic acid and other
byproducts while getting more blood flow to the muscles.  I assume this
would work with weightlifting, too.

I take Aleve and see if I can talk my husband into giving me a massage...

Soak in the spa. It was always my short term reward for doing the weight
training.
