Hi everyone.

Well I started my first day off with scrambled eggs, 3 slices of bacon (no
sugar) and one ounce of shredded cheddar cheese in my eggs.  Now I'm off to
the grocery store for this weeks groceries.  I have one question though.

Lunch isn't really a big meal for me, in other words it's hard for me to eat
lunch because I'm just not really hungry for anything.  Is it ok if I'm not
that hungry during lunch, if I just have a salad (veggies on the acceptable
foods list for induction), I would probably have half of what I'm allowed in
a day so I would have 1 1/2 cups of salad veggies for lunch.  Is it ok if
that is all I have for lunch?  I'm basically just asking if there is such a
thing on Atkins of eating too LESS.  I am doing the 3 meals a day thing
instead of the smaller, 5 or 6 meal thing.  It's hard for me just to eat 3
meals a day let alone 5 or 6:)

So is it ok if for lunch I just have a salad?  There might be some days when
I feel more hungry for lunch and I will throw in a piece of meat with my
salad or perhaps tuna on lettuce but today for instance, I know I'm not
going to be that hungry for lunch.

Thanks.

Is it possible to eat too little?  Yes.  Your body can and will adjust to
less food intake and make it harder to lose.  They call it starvation mode.
I would try and eat some protein for lunch.  How about a little chicken,
tuna or something on your salad?  I guess you could just have a salad, but I
think you will be better off eating more in the long run.

Curt

Starvation mode gets way too much press.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I forced myself to eat 4 or 5 times a day when starting Atkins.  I
say forced because within about 3 days, I just wasn't hungry.    I
would eat high fat meals though and limit my salad to 2 cups per day
plus 1 cup of other vegetables.  You need a high fat diet for Atkins
to work.

After induction, lots of talking heads will tell you not to skip
meals as you will eat more than normal later.   Not so with me and
maybe not you either.   It may be the key to you losing even more
weight than normal and avoiding plateaus.

I usually only eat two meals a day. Some days I had three, if we had company and I served them three...then I tended to not be able to resist, and had something then as well. I was earlier on the plan and had more to lose. I lost anyway.

My meals tend to be earlier in the day, though...with the big one about 1-2 pm. I'm often not hungry the rest of the day so it isn't a "big deal" at all to go without since I don't fix one for the kids at night either. (They have some preordained snacks they know are fine.)  It is just what our family is used to.

But, eating smaller, more often can be good. In my case, it just makes me think about food that many more times a day...not good as I may eat just because it's there, and not because I'm really hungry.

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

I used to eat 2 meals a day. Big meals. And snacks in the evening.
Many bad snacks.

You will find your own way here. I thought I would be doing just a
couple of meals, and now I have settled into having 4-6 small meals a
day. As my appetite decreased, I had trouble eating a full meal. I'd
say as long as you are getting what you need re: fats/proteins/carbs
and you are not setting yourself up to be starvingly hungry before
your next meal, you'll be ok. Especially in the first weeks as you are
learning, I wouldn't be too concerned as long as you eat the induction
foods only.

As someone said, this is a journey. I say it isn't a holy calling, but
a new way to eat. You'll find foods you didn't know you liked. You'll
get sick of some foods and drop them. Don't rule out anything in the
beginning and you'll end up with some meal schedule that works for
you.

Happy 1st day of Induction!

Put a nicy fatty dressing on your salad, Ranch is good or mayo.

My thoughts too - include some sugar-free mayo which will boost the fat and
calorie content.

Eat whatever you want for lunch that is appropriate for the phase you
are in.  If you just want a small salad for lunch, that's fine,
there's no need to go looking for more fat, calories, etc.  The real
issue is what and how much you are eating for the entire day, or over
a couple of days.  As long as that's a reasonable amount and the right
foods, then one meal being small, doesn't matter.
