Jean S. Barto - 03 Mar 2004 01:48 GMT Hi folks--
Although I'm exercising moderately and attempting to do a lower-carb diet, I'm still in the low 160's--and most of my clothes no longer fit me (previously a size 10P, now a 16P if they can be found). I bought two pairs of casual pants today at Talbots (size 16P and 16R), but I think that Talbot's sizing is a bit skimpy, and in any case, their selection in larger sizes, especially in Petites, is limited. I'm 5'3" tall, and so the Petites fit me very well--they need little or no alteration.
I'm looking for a few casual skirts/skorts/shorts to get me through this spring/summer while I'm still my *larger* self--presently a size 14R or 16R or 16P. I prefer classic styles and colors. The Nordstrom.com site had some nice selections, are there any other places I should try online? In my recent *smaller* past (2 to 3 years ago) I bought most of my clothes online at LL Bean, and because they were more generously sized, I was able to wear a pair of pants (size 10P) from them last summer/early fall, which was 8 to 10 pounds ago (in the early to mid 150's).
There is a Nordstrom store 45 minutes from me, in Norfolk, VA--but their clothing selection is not as good as the stores in the DC area--and so going down there to the store for a special shopping trip is not a really good option.
I looked at the Lane Bryant site and thought the clothes looked cheap.
Hope someone can suggest where else online I can look
Thanks in advance,
Jean in VA

OK...go ahead and laugh. I guess I'm a believer in buying used but good condition, if possible.

Why on earth should I pay $300 for an outfit for an evening when I can spend $35 and get a beaded evening blouse to pair with one of my black formal skirts or that comfy pair of palazo (sp?) pants with the panel overlays that makes it look like a formal skirt? Sarge works too hard for me to throw money away. :-)
Take care, Carmen

You all shared some great stuff! We have a consignment shop here. I found it by doing searches online. Found another in the yellow pages.
I seen a very cute pair of pink capris I really want at Old Navy. But they also had the cargo pant look to them. Love pockets and zippers. I am now the size to fit into them. Started out a size 24. Now in a size 20. Looking very forward to the size 16. Hopefully in a few months!

When I can buy Elisabeth (Liz Claiborne) and Venezia (Lane Bryant) for between 25¢ and $8, saving hundreds of dollars and building a wardrobe of classic, well-made clothes--often in like-new condition--why not? This is especially wise when you're moving quickly among different sizes--just "buy ahead" a little. You can fill in with trips to off-price stores like Ross or TJ Maxx.

I agree, especially when our sizes are changing so quickly. I don't want to spend retail prices for clothing that I won't be able to wear next month. Consignment stores are a good idea too. I have been able to take my larger clothes into consignment stores, get credit and purchase smaller clothing.
Just my 2cents worth :)

Marshalls and Ross and TJMaxx... I've found lots of Jones NY, Elisabeth and Ralph Lauren in plus sizes. 9 months ago I was a sz. 24, and now an 16-18, I can't afford to keep buying new clothes, no matter how much fun the shopping for smaller sizes is, lol. Kathy, born Renee Karyn Racine

DO NOT ask for their catalogs or order anything from them unless you want to get them for the rest of your life. Repeated requests to be removed from their mailing list have been ignored.

I said I would look for it at Lane Bryant on-line. They told me that the on-line store was not affiliated with the physical stores and did NOT carry the same stuff as the store, at least not intentionally. Good to know.

FOB - 03 Mar 2004 21:02 GMT The LB stores and the mail order belong to two different corporations and their inventory is completely different. I buy quite a few clothes from the mail order but they have the kinds of things I wear, knit or woven pants with elastic waists, turtlenecks, tunics, sweats, T's. All very casual stuff.

They also have a lot of W sizes that might work if hemmed. Best of all, returns are free. I also like to have them send the brochures - much easier than trying to look & order off their website.
