Miss eating apples?

I discovered something in my hotel last week. I had left overs from a
restaurant that included some tomato slices. I had a kitchen, so I whipped
up my usual breakfast, but I missed my ketchup from home.  What would happen
if I heat up that tomato slice with splenda and cinnamon in the microwave?
It tasted like apple sauce!

It wasn't ketchup- but good enough for a low carb dessert

At home I like the roma, plum tomatoes. about 4 carbs- easy to count and no
waste.

I'm on a low-carb diet and I eat apples from time to time, not
daily, and not always a whole apple, but nothing wrong with cutting
an apple into quarters and having a slice or two.  Not an "atkins
induction" legal food, but hey, do people *always* have to be on
induction to be considered "low carbing"?

I always eat one apple per day. One of the best sources of carbs as
far as I am concerned. Just count it towards your daily allowance. I
get about 150g of carbs per day.

Well, given that 24-25% of my calories come from carbs, I think that
it is low, yes. Much lower than the standard dietary recommendations.

Well, I am a 5'11" man who is not trying very hard to lose weight and
who spends 400-500 calories per day exercising. I am trying to lose
weight actually, but at the rate no more than 1 lb per month.

The carbs that I eat come mostly in the low GI form. Apples, hot
oatmeal cereal, low calorie vegetables, that sort of stuff.

Wow and I thought I was not quite "low carb" with my 60-75g max
I don't really count carbs anymore.  I did all that in the beginning,
and now that I know all the natural low-starch, low-sugar foods,
I simply eat them (fish, greens, poultry, olive oil, etc...).
Everything else that I put in my diet is after I've had a substantial
amount of the above.  There comes a time in one's diet where they
don't have to constantly refer to the book, or re-learn how to ride
the bike, so to speak.  That's what it's like for me.

Well, I am not about to tell you to eat more carbs. But the way I eat,
does not make me crave foods etc. See my post to "rosie" about low
GI foods that I eat.

> I don't really count carbs anymore.

I do not count anything, on a regular basis, but I did it for one
week using fitday, just to see what I was eating. I use portion
control instead of counting as it saves me time and aggravation.

same here.

Same here. I stay away from the real crap (junk food), keep carbs a
bit lower, and control portions. I also fast once per week on Thursdays.

As does the way I eat.  For me, it's not about carb count, it's
about ingredients, plain pure and simple.  It just seems to
default to 60-75 carb grams daily.  I am very sensitive to
grains, even whole grains, and refined sugar, so the foods I
eat are lower in simple carbohydrates.

The lowering of the carbs and the upping of natural fats does
that for me.

anything less than 100g carb/day is generally considered a ketogenic
diet.

Why would I want to be on a ketogenic diet, if do not plan on losing
weight at any but the slowest rate. My plan is to lose 10-15 lbs of
fat and gain 5 lbs of muscle in the whole year. So, 5-10 lbs of weight
is all I want to lose this year.

i don't really care what you want or don't want.  i didn't quote you,
and my response had less than nothing to do with you or your diet.

i was responding to Kathy's assertion that one needed to be below "150
carbs a WEEK" to be on a ketogenic (aka low carb) diet.

No, Kathy didn't assert anything.  I said that my diet was below 150 carbs a
week. I don't consider that in a day, low carb.

So what? There is no permanent good possible on Earth as we know it.

that's nice.

other people who know more about it disagree with you.

Which is fine, and is their right.  I follow the diet that my doctor
recommended.  I trust my doctor, and the diet has helped me in a low of ways.

{Beware run on sentance}  I was simply pointing out first, that 150 carbs a
day, was in my most humble opinion not low carbs, and second that I didn't
assert anything, I simply offered my opinion.

assert

v 1: state categorically [syn: asseverate, maintain] 2: to declare or
affirm as true: "Before God I swear I am innocent." [syn: affirm, avow,
aver, swan, swear] 3: insist on having one's opinions and rights
recognized; "Women should assert themselves more!" [syn: put forward] 4:
assert to be true; "The letter asserts a free society" [syn: insist]

I just eat apples.  Now that I'm getting close to the end, i noticed
that my calories were too high to keep losing, but that I had more
room for carbs.  So I replaced the bacon and eggs breakfast (1000
cals!) with an apple.  35 more carbs, but only 130 cals i think.  That
and the exercise seem to be working now.

Apples are hard to fit into a low carb plan in the earlier stages, while a
small tomato is ok. I have adopted a new habit of taking a small amount of
fruit when I have someone to share the rest of it with me.

Funny how appealing it looks to the next person when you slice a fruit up,
sharing can be fun.
