Miss eating apples?

diane - 03 Mar 2004 00:59 GMT I discovered something in my hotel last week. I had left overs from a restaurant that included some tomato slices. I had a kitchen, so I whipped up my usual breakfast, but I missed my ketchup from home. What would happen if I heat up that tomato slice with splenda and cinnamon in the microwave? It tasted like apple sauce!
It wasn't ketchup- but good enough for a low carb dessert
At home I like the roma, plum tomatoes. about 4 carbs- easy to count and no waste.

I'm on a low-carb diet and I eat apples from time to time, not daily, and not always a whole apple, but nothing wrong with cutting an apple into quarters and having a slice or two. Not an "atkins induction" legal food, but hey, do people *always* have to be on induction to be considered "low carbing"?

One of the best sources of carbs as far as I am concerned. Just count it towards your daily allowance. I get about 150g of carbs per day.

Well, given that 24-25% of my calories come from carbs, I think that it is low, yes. Much lower than the standard dietary recommendations.

Well, I am a 5'11" man who is not trying very hard to lose weight and who spends 400-500 calories per day exercising. I am trying to lose weight actually, but at the rate no more than 1 lb per month.
The carbs that I eat come mostly in the low GI form. Apples, hot oatmeal cereal, low calorie vegetables, that sort of stuff.

One of the best sources of carbs >> as [quoted text clipped - 11 lines] > > i Wow and I thought I was not quite "low carb" with my 60-75g max I don't really count carbs anymore. I did all that in the beginning, and now that I know all the natural low-starch, low-sugar foods, I simply eat them (fish, greens, poultry, olive oil, etc...). Everything else that I put in my diet is after I've had a substantial amount of the above. There comes a time in one's diet where they don't have to constantly refer to the book, or re-learn how to ride the bike, so to speak. That's what it's like for me.

But the way I eat, does not make me crave foods etc. See my post to "rosie" about low GI foods that I eat.
> I don't really count carbs anymore. I do not count anything, on a regular basis, but I did it for one week using fitday, just to see what I was eating. I use portion control instead of counting as it saves me time and aggravation.

I stay away from the real crap (junk food), keep carbs a bit lower, and control portions. I also fast once per week on Thursdays.

But the way I eat, > does not make me crave foods etc. See my post to "rosie" about low > GI foods that I eat. As does the way I eat. For me, it's not about carb count, it's about ingredients, plain pure and simple. It just seems to default to 60-75 carb grams daily. I am very sensitive to grains, even whole grains, and refined sugar, so the foods I eat are lower in simple carbohydrates.

Why would I want to be on a ketogenic diet, if do not plan on losing weight at any but the slowest rate. My plan is to lose 10-15 lbs of fat and gain 5 lbs of muscle in the whole year. So, 5-10 lbs of weight is all I want to lose this year.

i was responding to Kathy's assertion that one needed to be below "150 carbs a WEEK" to be on a ketogenic (aka low carb) diet.

No, Kathy didn't assert anything. I said that my diet was below 150 carbs a week. I don't consider that in a day, low carb. Kathy, born Renee Karyn Racine

other people who know more about it disagree with you.

Which is fine, and is their right. I follow the diet that my doctor recommended. I trust my doctor, and the diet has helped me in a low of ways.
{Beware run on sentance} I was simply pointing out first, that 150 carbs a day, was in my most humble opinion not low carbs, and second that I didn't assert anything, I simply offered my opinion. Kathy, born Renee Karyn Racine

brian lanning - 03 Mar 2004 16:11 GMT > It tasted like apple sauce! I just eat apples. Now that I'm getting close to the end, i noticed that my calories were too high to keep losing, but that I had more room for carbs. So I replaced the bacon and eggs breakfast (1000 cals!) with an apple. 35 more carbs, but only 130 cals i think. That and the exercise seem to be working now.

I have adopted a new habit of taking a small amount of fruit when I have someone to share the rest of it with me.
Funny how appealing it looks to the next person when you slice a fruit up, sharing can be fun.
