I had a book once, many years ago that advocated something similar.  You
were supposed to stock up your house with unlimited amounts of all your
trigger foods, and eat as much of them as you wanted, when you wanted.
The theory was that once you realized that you would never again
experience a shortage of those foods, you would stop craving them.  It
makes a lot of sense, and might have worked for some folks, but my
problem is that I like way too many foods.  As soon as I found myself
tiring of those foods, I'd go on wanting some other wondrous food, that
I hadn't yet thought to stock up on.  It's true I didn't really gain on
that WOE, but I didn't get thin and svelt either.  It was nice to eat
all the Fanny May chocolate I wanted for at least a while though ...

Sounds like "Feeding the Hungry Heart: The Experience of Compulsive Eating" by
Geneen Roth.  I tried that back in the early 90s -- I gained 15 lbs.

Before folks get any further into evaluating this diet, please note
that it's from The Onion.  It's like getting your news from The Daily
Show on Comedy Central.

Funny you say that. There was a poll of 20 somethings on where they got
their news from. The Daily Show was actually polled as the highest response.

And I believe they also felt that they got more real information from
the Daily Show during the last presidential campaign than either side's
ads or web sites or any other news outlet.  Which wouldn't surprise me,
as both sides like to muddy the waters and the serious media doesn't
help at all.  Sometimes a joke cuts through the crap and gets to the
heart of the matter when nothing else does.
