hey there, i'm just recently starting out on this whole low carb
thing. I started Feb 2nd, 2004. I am enjoying it and seeing results,
but i must say i am hating the scale! it isn't moving like i want it
to, clothes are getting lososer but it feels like if i'm shrinking why
isn't the scale reflecting that! very frustrating, i think i just need
to get rid of the darn thing altogether!
oh current stats are 319/305/175

14 pounds lost in one month, and you're complaining? Sheesh, girl, you're
doing great!

I have only 3 flaws. My first flaw is thinking that I only have 3 flaws.

Hi Christine, welcome to the group!
You've lost 14 lbs in a month -- that's 5 more lbs than *I* lost during my first
month, so you're doing well in MY book :-) Yes, that scale can be pretty
irritating. Just watch for trends and try not to let it get to you. If you find
that it's negatively affecting your outlook, don't weigh as often. My loss is
very slow compared to what seems to be the average on Atkins, and after 8 months
I've learned to accept what it says and just stay the course -- the weight WILL
come off. When I reach a new low, I STICK with it, even if the scale says a lb
or 3 higher over the next week or so because I KNOW it's not FAT that is showing
in the fluctuation -- it's water and other waste products. I recently started to
envision myself as a sort of teapot -- I could just tip to one side and pour out
the unimportant stuff and what is LEFT is what I REALLY weigh :-)
You ARE seeing results, so call the scale a dirty name and keep on keeping on :-)
I sometimes call my scale a "little cock-tease!" (or a "little f.cker!"). That's
because it often will LINGER on a lower weight for a couple of seconds (not just
a fleeting fraction of a second), then suddenly jump up 2-3 lbs.

Hi, Christine. Welcome to the group. It may not be disappearing as
fast as you like, but 14 lbs. in a month is nothing to sneeze at.
Rejoice!

It might be a good thing to hide the scale for a while, because it
isn't always a good indicator of success - especially in the short
term. You know your clothes are fitting better, and you feel like
you're shrinking. Think of this scenario: You're talking to a friend
on the street. She notices that the slacks she saw you in a month ago
are MUCH looser. Does she know what the number on the scale says? Of
course not. Enough that she knows what you're doing is working for
you.
In the long run the scale will reflect your success - but on a daily
basis it can be Satan in disguise.
