Anyone know how much carbs in movie popcorn without butter? Just want to see
if I can have some tonight.

1 cup popped in oil - 6.29 g - 1.1 g of fiber

1 cup popped in oil with butter = 7.23 g - 1.26 g of fiber

Keep in mind...1 cup is not very much popcorn. Better to eat before you go
and bring a snack with you. I know it's hard...movie popcorn is big for me
too...but it does not fit in a LC WOE.

hehe, yeah that is what I thought. I'll have dinner before I go to the movie
and take a club soda with me, that should do it.

I would like to think I could just eat a hand full, but I am sure the will
power would not allow it. :)

Sooo, NOOOOOOOOO popcorn.

If you really want some, if you want to treat yourself, you can try asking
them for a courtesy cup of popcorn.  Courtesy cups are usually tiny, and if
they're at all like the theater I work in they'll let you have it for free.

I share a bag with DH, he scoops it in by the handful and I like to
eat one kernal at a time so it works out for us.

Holy crap! It pays to read. I went to the movies yesterday for the first
time since starting LC, and just ASSumed I couldn't have popcorn. I took
pistachios instead (2 'small child's handfuls') that had *more* carbs than
the popcorn I could've had. I enjoyed the pistachios, too, but this is
really good to know.

I did not, however, enjoy the chocolate Atkins shake I took with me. Ugh.
Threw it away before drinking half. I've never consumed anything that
tasted less like chocolate than that shake.

Awww just slip a cold Diet Rite cola into your purse next time and enjoy a
soda with the popcorn, lol. You're supposed to have fun going to a movie..

I hate diet sodas; I'm very sensitive to the taste of any artificial
sweeteners. I bought water instead ($3.14!), and savored getting that nasty
Atkins shake taste out of my mouth!

Many lessons were learned yesterday. <g>

Popcorn is not lowcarb. Are you too fat to understand this?

Most of us probably aren't in danger of eating too little. :)

Popcorn is a moderately low glycemic carb though, and low calorie.  So if
someone is following a low GI plan, it can fit.  Plus, almost anything can
be low-carb if you just have a little.

Actually, it *is* relatively low-carb.  Only 5g carbs per cup.
The problem is that most  people don't stop at a couple of cups;

You have admitted in the past to eating almonds.  A cup of almonds has more
carbs than a cup of popcorn.  So how come you consider almonds lower carb
than popcorn?

Yeah, that crunch factor would tend to piss off a lot of
people, just like a cell phone  : )

Mike, I've been low-carbing for 3 years, and movie popcorn is one of the
occassional "indulgences" I allow myself.  It has never stalled my weight
loss; and I recently learned why.

Popcorn is low-calorie (just 30 calories/cup), not very carby (5 net g/cup),
and has only a moderate glycemic index (55).  (These numbers are per  the
USDA nutrient website).  It doesn't convert to glucose rapidly or cause a
subsequent dramatic insulin spike and crash that would likely cause carb
cravings.  Because so much of popcorn is air, one cup only has 5g of net
carbs.   If you are not in the induction (or beginning) stage of your
low-carb way of eating, go for it; relax, and enjoy a nice treat of movie
popcorn.  Make sure you slather it with that decadent trans-fatty "butter"
topping <g>!

to top it off..........:-)
